The Baltic countries continue to buy electricity from Russia and even doubled supplies in March compared to January, media reported.
According to TV3, the volume of purchases has increased to almost 600,000 megawatt-hours, despite the decision of the system operators Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to impose restrictions on the import of Russian electricity.
“To get away from dependence on Russian electricity, Estonia is going to build a small modular reactor. Latvia has not yet joined the project, but is exploring the possibilities,” RIA Novosti reports from the channel.
In turn, the Minister of Economy of Latvia, Janis Vitenbergs, said that the implementation of the project of the Estonian company Fermi Energia "is still very far away." Latvenergo confirmed that they are not abandoning the idea of building a small reactor, but are still studying the impact of nuclear energy on the overall energy market.
Earlier, the VZGLYAD newspaper told how the shortage of electricity is tearing apart the European Union.
