Michael Hammer is Director of the University of Arizona Genetics Core (UAGC) and a research scientist who has run a productive lab in human evolutionary genetics for the past 25 years. His lab has been an early adopter of NGS technology, applying whole genome analysis in humans, in great apes (GAPE Project), and in the Gibbon Genome project. His professional and personal experiences have endowed him with a passion to translate discoveries in the lab to the clinic, and to help children and their families who suffer from early childhood disorders. The University of Arizona is an excellent venue for these endeavors, being a first class University with great strengths in interdisciplinary research, an excellent medical school, state-of-the-art core facilities, and talented clinicians.
Dr. J. Bruce Walsh
Professor
Positions and Education:
Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, 2004-present
Associate Head, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, 2001-present
Associate Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, 1991-2004
Chair, Interdepartmental Committee of Genetics, University of Arizona, 1993-1994 Assistant Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Arizona, 1986-1991
Post-Doctorial Fellowship, University of California, Davis,1985-1986
Post-Doctorial Fellowship, University of Chicago, 1983-1985
Ph.D., Genetics, University of Washington, Seattle, 1983
B.S., Mathematical Population Biology, University of California, Davis, 1979
Research Interests:
Bruce Walsh's interests are broadly in using mathematical models to explore the interface of genetics and evolution, with particular focus on two areas: the evolution of genome structure and the analysis of complex genetic characters (aka quantitative genetics)
Doron M Behar, M.D., Ph.D.

SHORT BIO
Doron M. Behar (Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel) holds an MD and PhD
degrees from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. At his capacity as an MD he
graduated three specialization programs in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and
Medical Genetics. His PhD thesis was in the field of Population Genetics. Dr. Behar has multiyear
background experience in the development of genetic testing for the public using a direct
internet based customer approach at his capacity as the chief medical officer of Gene by Gene
Ltd. His primary interest is in developing robust, low-priced genetic testing to the general public
that will allow the hope of responsible personalized genetic medicine to any individual
worldwide.
Connie Bormans
FTDNA Laboratory Manager
Dr. Bormans received her Ph.D. in genetics from Texas A&M University where she developed new STR marker panels for use in plant breeding. As a Research Fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, she managed three large scale projects to identify genes related to cardiovascular disease. She is currently focused on developing efficient methods for large scale genotyping projects using both direct sequencing and STR analysis
Spencer Wells
Ph.D. Advisory Board
Spencer Wells is an Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society and Frank H. T. Rhodes Class of 1956 Professor at Cornell University. He leads The Genographic Project, which is collecting and analyzing hundreds of thousands of DNA samples from people around the world in order to decipher how our ancestors populated the planet. Wells received his Ph.D. in population genetics from Harvard University and conducted postdoctoral work at Stanford and Oxford. He has appeared in numerous documentary films and is the author of three books, The Journey of Man, Deep Ancestry and Pandora's Seed
