Russia Prepares to Recognize Kosovo Independence

Thursday, 14 May 2009 20:36 .Former President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Russia is preparing to recognize Kosovo's independence only if the Western powers back off from NATO's missile shield in Europe.

Last year, President Bush won NATO's endorsement for his plan to build a missile defense system in Europe over Russian objections. The proposal also advanced with Czech officials announcing an agreement to install a missile-tracking site for the system in their country.

Former Serbia's province of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence on February 17 as a result of a decade long Serbian terrorism perpetrated against Kosovo Albanians. So far, 58 states, including the United States, Australia, Japan and major European countries, have formally recognized the Republic of Kosovo.

Belgrade has recalled its ambassadors from a number of countries recognizing Kosovo's independence.

NPogledajte slovene iz Makedonije, skoro sve države (mislim preko 160, ove ostale baš briga) priznaju je kao Republika Makedonija, ali ne daju Grci pa se i dalje zovu Bivši makedonci
