Changes to the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) have been made by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) in consultation with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

The Skilled Occupations List (SOL) lists all occupations that the Government considers to be a skilled profession for purposes of migration to Australia. Applicants for a General Skilled Migration visa must nominate a skilled occupation listed on the SOL in order to gain points towards their Australian visa application.

They must also have their nominated skills assessed by an approved assessing body before their application will be accepted by DIAC.

The Government periodically reviews the SOL so that it remains reflective of the Australian economy, and this week, after consultation with DEEWR, DIAC have released a revised version of the SOL to go live on 15 May 2009.

While no occupations have been removed or added from the SOL, the Government has changed the assessing requirements for occupations. Now, Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services (VETASSESS) can act as a co-assessing authority alongside the Trades Recognition Authority (TRA) for all countries except “recognised countries” for the following occupations:

4311-11 General Electrician
4431-11 General Plumber
4312-11 Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic
4211-11 Motor Mechanic
4411-11 Carpenter and Joiner
4411-13 Carpenter
4411-15 Joiner
4313-11 Electrical Powerline Tradesperson
4313-13 Cable Jointer
4414-11 Bricklayer
4311-01 Supervisor, Electricians
4312-01 Supervisor, Plumbers
4411-01 Supervisor, Carpentry and Joinery Tradespersons
4313-01 Supervisor, Electrical Distribution Tradespersons
4414-01 Supervisor, Bricklayers
4211-01 Supervisor, Motor Mechanics

“Recognised Countries” are UK, India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and the Philippines.

Effectively, this means that skilled applicants in the above trades, who are not residents of any recognised country, now have another option to TRA to have their skills assessed in order to complete their Australian visa application.

It is not clear whether VETASSESS has plans to conduct practical assessments in any other country but they may consider doing so, depending on demand.

Dear Mrs Palma,

You will be aware that the Minister has made an adjustment to Australia’
s migration intake to ensure that the skilled migration program is
responsive to the worsening global economic situation. On 16 March 2009
a revised processing order for applications with identified skills in high
demand took effect. Applications with employer or state or territory
sponsorship continue to receive first priority, then those with business
skills and with an occupation on the Critical Skills List (CSL). The aim
is to improve the skilled migration program so that migrant workers are
meeting skills shortages and not competing with Australian workers for
jobs. The Minister is monitoring the migration intake and will aim to set
the 2009-2010 migration program to reflect the economic climate as part
of the Budget process.

You have nominated a skilled occupation that is not on the CSL and your
application is not currently eligible for priority processing. While we
empathise with your circumstances, we are sorry to advise that your
application is not able to be finalised this financial year.

The Minister's priority processing direction applies to all applications,
including those in the final stages of processing. If your nominated
occupation is not on the Critical Skills List (CSL) and you are not
nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by an employer,
the processing of your visa application will be delayed until those visa
applications which meet the processing priorities are finalised. There
is no set time for the processing of applications for skilled migration.

If you wish to have your application processed as a priority, you may wish
to consider an employer-sponsored visa or alternatively seek State or
Territory government nomination. An eligible Australian employer could
sponsor you and guarantee to employ you for a period of time under the
Temporary Business (Subclass 457) visa, the Regional Sponsored Migration
Scheme (RSMS) or the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS).

Further information on these schemes and instructions for obtaining
nomination/sponsorship is available on the Department's website:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/visa-options.htm.

For any further enquiries about the application you have lodged please
refer to our website using the following link http://www.immi.gov.

Yours sincerely

Pozdrav svma
Htio bih da dam podrsku svima forumasima-aplikantima i svojim buducim zemljacima. (Palmu sam cak i upoznao prije 2 godine)

:klap:

Further cuts in Australian Skilled Migration intake
Posted: 12 May 2009 02:20 AM PDT

The Rudd Government is going to announce its latest budget tonight with an expected deficit of about $60 billion most likely making the biggest headline.
For those looking at making the move down under however, the slashing of a further 7000 places from the general skilled migration intake will be the news that hurts the most!
The cut will take the general skilled migration intake for the next financial year to 108,000.
Added to the decision in March to axe 18,500 places, the total reduction of 25,500 will constitute a 20 per cent cut to the program.
The cuts, the deepest since the previous recession, will proceed despite figures this week showing the unemployment rate fell from 5.7 per cent to 5.4 per cent last month, which translated to an increase of 27,000 jobs.
While the Minister for Immigration Senator Chris Evans has not yet released details of the Australian skilled migration program for the 2009-10 financial year, it can be expected that it would reflect the needs of the recovering Australian economy.
Over the past few years, when the Australian economy was soaring at unprecedented levels, the Australian migration program also reached record levels (133,000 places for skilled migration).
This year, in response to the global economic contraction, Senator Evans had to refine the Australian skilled migration program so that it targeted those migrants with the skills needed most for the growth of the Australian economy, and slash the annual target to 115,000 places.
Nevertheless, if predictions that the Australian skilled migration program would be reduced by a further 7,000 places come to fruition, there will still 108,000 places available for potential skilled migrants to Australia.

Pozdrav i vama, još jedan prvi post.
