Schurrle 'agrees terms with Chelsea'

Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, with the Blues ready to spend €22 million to bring the attacking midfielder to Stamford Bridge, Die Welt has reported

The paper said Schurrle, 22, could sign a contract until 2018. Leverkusen officials will travel to London on Friday to negotiate the details of a deal which, with the player’s wages included, could be worth around €50 million.

Chelsea had made an offer for Schurrle before the start of the season - something the Germany international described as “an honour” – but it was rejected by Leverkusen.

Now, however, they could be ready to sell. General manager Rudi Voller, speaking earlier this month, told Deutsche Presseagentur: "We are receiving transfer enquiries every now and then.

"Andre Schurrle is not the only player of interest. It is obvious for us to have a look at those proposals. We also did that last summer."

Leverkusen are likely to attempt to replace Schurrle with 21-year-old Chelsea midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who has impressed several Bundesliga clubs while on loan at Werder Bremen this season.

“Bayer Leverkusen is a very good option,” De Bruyne’s agent, Patrick de Koster, told Die Welt. “They will play in the Champions League next season, and Kevin could take Andre Schurrle’s role.

“Kevin wants to further his career, and Leverkusen could be the right destination.”

But Leverkusen face a difficult task to persuade Chelsea to sell the Belgium international, with the Londoners reportedly only interested in sending him out on loan again.

“They are eying another loan,” De Koster said. “Beside Leverkusen, Dortmund and Schalke are among the clubs interested.”

Earlier this week, Rheinische Post reported that Dortmund were ready to offer €17 million for De Bruyne.

Vise bih volela da vidim par igraca iz Dortmunda, tipa Levandovski, but well...

Sto se trenera tice, nadam se da se vraca Murinjo. <3

Double winners: Chelsea 'seal Jose Mourinho return as manager and Radamel Falcao swoop'

Abramovich reportedly ready to to buy Atletico Madrid goal-machine as a welcome home gift for manager who steered Blues to two Prem titles

Jose Mourinho AND Radamel Falcao are on their way to Chelsea, according to a report in Germany.

Newspaper Bild, which broke the news of Mario Gotze's move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich, has followed up with a story that will warm the cockles of every Blues fan's heart - if it proves true.

The piece claims that Real Madrid boss Mourinho, who made Chelsea champions in his first spell in charge at the Stamford Bridge club, is "almost certain" to return to his west London throne.

Real's 4-1 loss to Dortmund in Germany in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday will presumably do little to slow down the exit of a man who is said to have fallen out with key players at the Bernabeu.

It has been felt for months that this was likely to be the final season at Real for the Portuguese, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco.

Colombia striker Falcao has been on the Chelsea radar for even longer, and Bild's report calls him a €60million (£51.7m) "special welcome gift" to Mourinho from Blues' owner Roman Abramovich.

The news broke within hours of Fernando Torres, a largely disappointing £50m Abramovich buy from Liverpool two years ago, bullishly backing himself to succeed even if Chelsea bought Falcao this summer.

Spain international striker Torres said: "When you play for Chelsea, you're always hoping big players come and the big names are always being linked with the club.

"You cannot stop that - especially when the summer comes. Every player is welcome at Chelsea, every top player.

"Since I came to Chelsea, only top players have come, so it would not be a surprise if we signed Falcao."

As Chelsea fans chant for Mourinho, here's why they want their greatest ever manager back at the Bridge...

Nearly six years after he walked out of the top job at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho once again heard his name ring out around Stamford Bridge.

It is no secret that Mourinho's reign as Real Madrid boss is coming to an end and Stamford Bridge is looking increasingly like his next destination.

On a night when interim manager Rafa Benitez guided Chelsea to the final of the Europa League Mourinho was again the name on the lips of the supporters. But why does the Portuguese still hold such a special place in the hearts of Chelsea fans?

Simply the best: Nobody has been as successful as Jose Mourinho (centre) at Chelsea

Roman Abramovich is the man who started the revolution at Chelsea and he will always be revered by the fans - without his money, the trophies and league titles would not have been possible.

But if the mega-rich Russian was the catalyst for change, it was Mourinho who became the revolution.

Everybody remembers his first day at Stamford Bridge.

He proclaimed himself the 'Special One' and though he didn't go as far as to promise to win the league title that season, it was clear to everyone that that is exactly what he believed he would do.

His legacy was born, and since that day, Chelsea have not had anyone as Special as Mourinho in charge.

In Chelsea's 106-year history, Jose Mourinho has the highest win percentage (67 per cent) bar Gus Hiddink (73 per cent) and Avram Grant, whose is equal.

But Hiddink only had 22 matches in charge at the Bridge and Grant 54, Mourinho had 185.

Back to back: Successive titles cemented his legacy

It is a simple fact and the overriding reason for his love - nobody has been as good for as long at Chelsea, he is the club's greatest ever manager statistically, and where it matters, in the trophy room.

Of Chelsea's four league titles, Mourinho won two, in his first two years in charge.

He also won an FA Cup and two League Cups in his three-and-a-half year reign, and oversaw a period of success unrivalled in Chelsea's history.

It was an exciting time to be a supporter. Players who previously would only have arrived at the end of their careers were now choosing the club over European giants.

Though his playing style has come to be known as attritional and borne out of defensive and team discipline, some of the play - characterised by the terrorising wing-play of Arjen Robben, Damien Duff and Joe Cole - was great to watch.

Chelsea scored a very reasonable 72 goals in each of the title winning seasons under Mourinho, just under two goals per game.

His pitchside histrionics were not only amusing to watch but showed that he cared about the club. Hatred and antagonisation of rivals such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal only endeared him further.

And his interviews and post-match comments helped create an 'us against the world' mentality that extended to the fans.

Antics: Mourinho's off-the-field actions, such as throwing his title-winning medal into the crowd, endeared him to the Chelsea faithful

Chelsea supporters were constantly defending their choice of club after being asked: 'How long have you been a Chelsea fan?', and faced taunts that their side had bought the title.

Although Mourinho didn't win a European trophy, in the eyes of Chelsea fans his record in that regard came about not by fault but by conspiracy.

The Luis Garcia 'ghost goal' for Liverpool and Asier Del Horno's controversial sending off against Barcelona only served to convince Chelsea supporters their club was being stitched up.

Failure? Mourinho never won a European title at the Bridge, but incidents such as Luis Garcia's (centre) 'ghost goal' helped to fuel anti-Chelsea conspiracies

Mourinho constantly thanked the fans and flattered them, and incidents such as throwing his Premier League medal into the crowd showed Chelsea supporters they were dealing with a maverick, something that hasn't been seen in the league before or since.

They wanted him to have a job for life.

So when the end came it was as sad for supporters as it was inevitable.

Multi-billionaires are known for having egos as large as their bank balances and it was Mourinho who was getting the love and the praise for taking Chelsea to the top.

But he came second in the league in 2007 and made a relatively poor start to the 2007-2008 season.

The supporters, of course, believe the Special One would have turned it around but after a Champions League match against Rosenborg, he was gone.

Since he departed no manager has had the kind of personality or charisma that could take him to the Portuguese's level.

Opposition: Chelsea fans in the game after Mourinho was sacked in 2007

Those who threatened to come close, Carlo Ancelotti, Guus Hiddink and Roberto Di Matteo, didn't stick around long enough for one reason or another.

Hiddink had the team playing as stylishly as had been seen in years at the Bridge, but a three-month spell in charge (in 2009) is never going to take you to the level of a club's greatest ever manager.

Carlo Ancelotti's double win can, arguably, be considered comparable to anything Mourinho achieved.

But his failure in the Champions League at the hands of Mourinho's Inter was another indicator that the Portuguese was the only man for Chelsea. Many Blues celebrated Inter's Champions League win that year as if it was their own, especially the victory in the semi-final over the new enemy Barcelona.

Di Matteo brought the club the single greatest night in their history, the long awaited - and perhaps long deserved - Champions League win.

But a large proportion of Chelsea fans knew that Di Matteo was never truly the man for the job.

End of days: Mourinho's reighn at Real Madrid seems to be coming to an end

His record in the Premier League suffered due to the exertions in Europe and many fans had their misgivings about whether he was good enough to take the club forward.

Since leaving, Mourinho has maintained a good relationship with the fans and in their eyes he still loves the club.

He has never said a word against Chelsea supporters, and the intermittent success since he left, and their opposition for his being sacked, have all added to his myth and legacy.

If - or when - Mourinho returns to Chelsea this summer you can be assured that the kind of reception that has blighted Rafa Benitez's reign won't be forthcoming.

And now it appears that whatever tension and animosity there was previously between Mourinho and Abramovich has now cooled, leaving the door open for a spectacular return of the Special One.

The final word: Is Roman Abramovich (right) prepared to let Mourinho back into Stamford Bridge?
