BRUSSELS (AP) — Russia’s armed forces are bruised but by no means beaten in the war in Ukraine, a top NATO military officer said Monday, as he laid out the biggest revamp to the organization’s military plans since the Cold War should Moscow dare to widen the conflict.
“They might not be 11 feet tall, but they are certainly not 2 feet tall,” the Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, told reporters. “So, we should never underestimate the Russians and their ability to bounce back.”
U.S. President Joe Biden and his NATO counterparts are set to endorse a major shakeup of the alliance’s planning system at a summit in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius next week.
NATO, as an organization, does not provide weapons or ammunition to Ukraine. It’s sought to avoid being dragged into a wider war with nuclear-armed Russia. At the same time, it is massively reinforcing the security of member countries near Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
Around 40,000 troops are on standby from Estonia in the north down to Romania on the Black Sea. About 100 aircraft take to the skies in that territory each day, and a total of 27 warships are operating in the Baltic and Mediterranean Seas. Those numbers are set to rise.
Under its new plans, NATO aims to have up to 300,000 troops ready to move to its eastern flank within 30 days. The plans divide its territory into three zones – the high north and Atlantic area, a zone north of the Alps, and another in southern Europe.
Bauer said that NATO’s new planning is based on the strength of the Russian army before President Vladimir Putin launched the war on Ukraine almost 17 months ago. He said the war has depleted Russia’s army, but not its navy or air force.
Of Russia’s ground forces, around “94% is now engaged in the war in Ukraine,” Bauer said.
“What we see in general is that the Russians are careful around NATO. They are not for seeking a conflict with NATO. I think that is a sign that they are very, very busy,” he said. “In the land domain, I don’t think they have a lot of forces available to do anything to anyone else.”

During the day, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continued to attempt offensive operations in the Donetsk , Krasno-Liman and South Donetsk directions.
In the Donetsk direction , 9 enemy attacks were successfully repelled in the areas of the settlement. Zolotarevka LPR, Vodiane, Pervomayskoye and Klescheevka DPR.
Air strikes, artillery fire and TOS destroyed up to 260 Ukrainian militants, 1 tank, 3 AFVs, 5 pickup trucks, self-propelled howitzer M109 "Paladin" (USA), as well as self-propelled guns "Gvozdika" .
On the Krasno-Limansky direction in the areas of N. p. Torskoye, Yampolovka DPR and Makeevka LPR repelled four enemy attacks.
In areas of n.p. Torskoye, Terny DPR and Chervonaya Dibrova LPR were hit by accumulations of manpower and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In areas of n.p. Chervonay Dibrov and Kuzmino LPR stopped the activities of 2 Ukrainian DRGs.
More than 90 Ukrainian militants, 3 armored vehicles, 2 pickup trucks, Gvozdika self-propelled guns and a D-30 howitzer.
In the South-Donetsk direction, 3 enemy attacks were repelled in the areas of the settlement. Nikolskoye, Harvest and Makarovka DPR.
In areas of n.p. Rabotino, Zaporozhye region and Harvest DPR, fire damage was inflicted on accumulations of manpower and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the Zaporozhye direction in the area of the settlement Marfopol, Zaporozhye region, the Ukrainian DRG was destroyed .
Enemy losses in these areas per day amounted to 190 Ukrainian militants killed and wounded, 2 tanks, 7 armored combat vehicles, including the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle (USA), 4 vehicles, 2 M777 artillery systems (USA), 2 MSTA-B howitzers, as well as D-20 and D- 30 .

In the Kupyansk direction , enemy units were defeated in the areas of the settlement. Artemovka LPR, Novomlynsk, Kotlyarovka, Krasnoe Pervoi and Sinkovka of the Kharkov region.

Ne razumem kakve to veze ima sa Rusima, Ruse sigurno nikada nece napasti taman da se sadasnja Rusija raspadne na vise drzava kako neke dileje to predvidjaju, ekonomsko iskoristavanje dolazi u obzir ali to zavisi zavisi od Rusa a ne od Amera.
RuSSki nacisti polako ali sigurno gube rat u Ukrajini
Čini se da su vremenski okviri za iscrpljujući rat protiv Rusije propušteni.
Prije nekoliko mjeseci pisao sam o tome da tri najveće ruske tvornice miruju s proizvodnjom zbog nedostatka elektronike.

Sada je situacija upravo suprotna. Tri najveće ruske tvornice Uralvagonzavod, Omsktransmash i Kurganmashzavod intenzivno proizvode, a to nije sve. Uraltransmaš i Oklopno-remontni pogoni, koji se sastoje od osam jedinica, rade najmanje 12 sati dnevno, ali još ne u "ratnom režimu".
Primjerice, Kurganmašzavod je imao oko 1.700 radnika, ali je prošle godine zaposlio još 1.000, a nedavno još 1.200.
Tijekom posljednjih nekoliko mjeseci ruska je industrija isporučila desetke helikoptera i mlažnjaka afričkim zemljama poput Malija, Ugande, Toga i Zimbabvea. To sugerira da je svaki nedostatak elektronike prošlost.
Nedavno je Uralvagonzavod 100% svoje proizvodnje usmjerio isključivo na tenkove, dok Omsktransmash više ne proizvodi tenkove i umjesto toga je svoj fokus prebacio na Tos-1 i modernizaciju T80 i T62M, kao i nekog topništva, uključujući D30, 2s4 i 2s5.
Kurganmashzavod intenzivno radi na IFV-ima kao što je BMP3M, a najmanje pet tvornica za popravak oklopnih vozila obnavlja druga IFV-a i oklopna vozila. Uraltransmash proizvodi topništvo Akatsiya, Malka i Msta S i već je ove godine isporučio dvije serije Msta S.
Broj projektila lansiranih na Kijev još je jedan primjer zamaha u proizvodnji ruske zrakoplovne industrije.
Svi dokazi upućuju na to da ruski vojni kompleks godišnje može proizvesti/obnoviti stotine tenkova i vjerojatno tisuće IFV-ova, oklopnih transportera i topništva.
Moramo uzeti u obzir 14 jedinica koje proizvode (ne uključujući jedinice koje rade u neizravnoj proizvodnji poput "techzavoda").
Rat je na putu gdje će SAD držati frontu ili saveznici moraju početi pregovarati s Rusijom. Ako Rusija nastavi ovu stopu, lako će nadvladati donacije EU-a za Ukrajinu i ozbiljno ugroziti sposobnost EU-a da nastavi opskrbljivati Ukrajinu. Ova situacija samo razotkriva staru kritiku, prema kojoj saveznici nisu ulagali u objekte za ukrajinske tvrtke kako bi nastavile proizvoditi, obnavljati i popravljati izvan zemlje. Ukrajina je imala izvrstan vojni kompleks koji je pretrpio posljedice rata i nije dobio nikakva sredstva za program restrukturiranja od saveznika. Iz drugih ruku, Ukr je odlučio kupiti oružje vrijedno 800 milijuna dolara koje nikada nije isporučeno. Još jedna greška.
*Dodajmo kao napomenu, Ukrajina je upravo dobila nešto poput 60% onoga što je najavljeno za ofenzivu.
Ukrajinska vojska se znatno poboljšala od početka ofenzive, ali nedostatak SHORADS-a i teških oklopnih vozila ozbiljan je problem za ovu vrstu ofenzive, a da ne spominjemo nedostatak zračne potpore.
Volio bih čuti kakva je perspektiva ukrajinske ofenzive. S trenutnom opremom ne vidim nikakvu perspektivu, osim ako SAD naprave korak naprijed i pošalju stotine Bradleya i Abramsa. Opet bi se moglo uravnotežiti rat. Broj Storm shadows je nedovoljan da zabrine RuAF.

*Dodajmo kao napomenu, Ukrajina je upravo dobila nešto poput 60% onoga što je najavljeno za ofenzivu.
Ukrajinska vojska se znatno poboljšala od početka ofenzive, ali nedostatak SHORADS-a i teških oklopnih vozila ozbiljan je problem za ovu vrstu ofenzive, a da ne spominjemo nedostatak zračne potpore.
Volio bih čuti kakva je perspektiva ukrajinske ofenzive. S trenutnom opremom ne vidim nikakvu perspektivu, osim ako SAD naprave korak naprijed i pošalju stotine Bradleya i Abramsa. Opet bi se moglo uravnotežiti rat. Broj Storm shadows je nedovoljan da zabrine RuAF.
