Sampdoria sporting director Beppe Marotta has congratulated his side on 'a job well done' in Serbia after they defeated Partizan Belgrade 2-1 in the UEFA Cup...
Sampdoria were impressive as they picked up an important victory in the UEFA Cup, something they have been unable to do so far in Serie A this season. The Blucerchaiti defeated Partizan Belgrade 2-1 after goals from Emiliano Bonazzoli and Daniele Dessena.
The attention now turns back to domestic action where Sampdoria have been struggling, but Beppe Marotta is confident the team can build on this good result.
"Now we have the strength to close this result and think about the league," said a clearly relieved Marotta.
"A job well done by all, because before we were anxious and fearful. However, the players have responded and demonstrated that the club, players, and coach are working together."
Marotta then spoke about influential superstar Antonio Cassano, who is constantly linked with a move to other clubs: "Cassano? He is spectacular and has great technical qualities, as well as being emotional about football. He signed a contract for five years. He wants to stay and we want to keep him. I don't think he will leave anytime soon."
Sampdoria take on Bologna this Sunday at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and Marotta knows his team are in need of a good result.
"Now there is no time for a party, because we must think about the league."
