Lockerbie Diary: Gadhaffi, Fall Guy for CIA Drug Running

For years I was told the terrorist who placed the bomb on board Pan Am 103, known as the Lockerbie bombing, lives about 8 miles from my house, in Fairfax County, Virginia.

His life-time of privilege and protection, gratis of high flyers in U.S. Intelligence, has been a reward for silence on the CIA's involvement in drug trafficking in Lebanon during the 1980s.

As sources go, I was more than a casual observer. From May 1995 until March 2003, I performed as a back channel to Tripoli and Baghdad, supervised by my CIA handler, Dr. Richard Fuisz, who claimed from day one to know the origins of the Lockerbie conspiracy and the identity of the terrorists. http://issuepedia.org/1998-12-04_Susan_Lindauer_Deposition He swore that no Libyan participated in the attack.

Armed with that assurance, our team started talks with Libya's diplomats for the Lockerbie Trial, and I attended over 150 meetings at the Libyan Embassy in New York. After the hand over of Libya's two accused men, our team engaged in a concerted fight to gain permission for Dr. Fuisz to give a deposition about his primary knowledge of the conspiracy, during the Lockerbie Trial In a surprise twist, the U.S. Federal Judge in Alexandria, Virginia imposed a double seal on a crucial portion of Dr. Fuisz's deposition. The double seal can only be opened by a Scottish Judge. In my opinion, that should be a priority, as testimony hidden by the double seal maps out the whole Lockerbie conspiracy. Most significantly, it identifies 11 terrorists involved in the attack. Dr. Fuisz's testimony could put the whole matter to rest forever.

There's good reason for my confidence. Much to my surprise, during the Lockerbie talks, Dr. Fuisz's allegations of CIA opium running in Lebanon received unusual corroboration. One day, as I left the office of Senator Carol Moseley-Braun on my lunch break, an older spook caught up with me in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. From out of nowhere, he stepped in my path and invited me to lunch. With extraordinary candor, he debriefed me as to what motivated the CIA's actions. I remember it as one battle-hardened old spook sharing the perils of fieldwork with a gung ho young Asset, anxious to get started on great adventures.

It was a morality tale for sure. According to him, the CIA infiltrated opium and heroin trafficking in Lebanon as part of a crisis operation to rescue AP reporter Terry Anderson and 11 other American and British hostages in Beirut, including CNN bureau chief Jeremy Levin and Anglican envoy Terry Waite. The hostage crisis was a legitimate CIA concern. The CIA Station Chief of Beirut, William Buckley, was also kidnapped by Islamic Jihad and brutally tortured to death, his body dumped in the street in front of CIA headquarters. The rescue was protracted and complicated by Lebanon's Civil War—ultimately, Terry Anderson's captivity lasted seven years. Many of the hostages suffered beatings, solitary confinement chained to the floor, and mock executions.

The older spook who refused to identify himself swore that the CIA considered it urgently necessary to try every possibility for recovering the hostages. The concept of infiltration into criminal networks cuts to the murky nature of intelligence itself. Drug enforcement frequently rely on the same strategies. Where the CIA went far wrong was in pocketing some of those heroin profits for itself along the way. The dirty little secret is that the CIA continued to take a percentage cut of opium and heroin production out of Lebanon well into the 1990s.

As for the hostage rescue itself, considering the operation took years to accomplish, it's always been whispered that a corrupted CIA officer enjoying those opium profits might have swallowed reports on the hostages' locations, or otherwise diverted his team in order to protect his narcotics income.

That appears to have become a serious fear at the time, among other U.S. officers jointly involved in the rescue.

In December 1988, infuriated Defense Intelligence agents issued a formal protest, exposing CIA complicity in Middle East heroin trafficking. When teams from both agencies got summoned back to Washington to attend an internal hearing, they boarded Pan Am 103. A wing of militant Hezbollah led by Ahmed Jibril, his nephew Abu Elias, Abu Talb and Abu Nidal took out both teams in order to protect their lucrative cartel.

Classified Defense Intelligence records show that Jibril and Talb had been toying with a conspiracy to bomb a U.S. airplane during the 1988 Christmas holidays anyway. They planned to bomb a U.S. airliner in revenge for the U.S.S. Vincennes, which shot down an Iranian commercial airliner loaded with Hajiis returning from Mecca in July, 1988. However the Defense Intelligence threat to expose their heroin network put the bombing plan into action. Islamic Jihad's ability to discover actionable intelligence on the flight schedules would definitely confirm that somebody at CIA was operating as a double agent, keeping Islamic Jihad a step ahead of the rescue efforts.

That's the dirty truth about Lockerbie. It ain't nothing like you've been told.

Wait a darn moment—I anticipate your confusion. Libya got blamed for the Lockerbie attack. Daddy George Bush told us so! The United Nations imposed sanctions on Libya, demanding that Colonel Moammar Gadhaffi hand over two Libyans for trial. One of the two, Lameen Fhima got acquitted immediately. The other Abdelbasset Megrahi got convicted (on the most flimsy circumstantial evidence that overlooked endless contradictions). Libya paid $2.7 billion in damages—amounting to $10 million per family death— to make the U.N. sanctions go away, and expressed a sort of non-apology for the deaths—while never acknowledging its involvement in the conspiracy.

So Libya was innocent the whole time? In a word, yes.

Don't get me wrong: I have no soft spot for Libya. As an Asset, I saw that no matter the flowing promises of friendship, at heart Libyans hearken to their glory days as Bedouin raiders. It's pathological, not personal. They are deeply tribal and Islamic, which often makes them paranoid and suspicious of outsiders. They have an ancient history of raiding each other's camps, back and forth, stealing livestock, women and children. One of my best diplomatic sources had a tattoo on his wrist, because his grandmother feared he would be kidnapped as a small child (in the 1950s). Libya simply does not have a history of believing that it needs to keep promises to individuals outside their clans. That's not part of their heritage.

That vendetta culture bodes dangerously for the current rebellion. Even after Gadhaffi's gone, in all likelihood these tribal families will continue to exact vengeance on one another. It remains to be seen whether the new government will hide those clashes to protect its image of cohesion and legitimacy to the outside world. In truth, Libyan culture poses a threat to itself most of all.

I don't say that about just any Arab country. I enjoy Arab culture very much. I just know better than to do favors for Gadhaffi. His actions often mask some other agenda.

But the bottom line is that Libya had nothing to do with the bombing of Pan Am 103, which exploded over the town of Lockerbie, Scotland. We should care about Lockerbie because of the serious problem that it exposed. Opium trafficking out of the Bekaa Valley provides a major source for global heroin production. In turn, the global pipeline of narco-dollars keep militant operations alive world-wide from the Middle East to Indonesia, Colombia, Burma and the Far East.

That's something to fear. We don't have to deploy soldiers to shut it down. With a little creativity, we could attack the bank accounts of these global heroin traffickers and cut off funds for the violence without damaging the local society through warfare. We could strike down two scourges—heroin and terrorism. And the U.S. would not require military action all over the planet to accomplish its goals. Thankfully, there are other ways.

The first step is recognition.

У одного из моих лучших дипломатических источников была татуировка на запястье, так как его бабушка боялась, что его похитят, когда он был ребёнком (в 1950-е). У Ливии просто нет истории веры в то, что она должна выполнять обещания, данные людям не из их кланов. Это не является частью их наследия.

As a Provocation Against Libya to (Falsely) Justify Economic Sanctions
Designed to Weaken and Ultimately Overthrow the then Highly Popular Leader!

Ronald Reagan murdered the daughter of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi and almost killed Qaddafi himself on April 15, 1986. After that the United States—NOT QADDAFI—NOT LIBYA—brought down Lockerbie Pan Am Flight 103 on December 21, 1988 with a bomb as a MASS PROVOCATION killing 243 passengers sacrificed as part of an escalating war against Libya and Qaddafi in order to take control of Libyan oil. THINK MOTIVE! The Lockerbie Airliner Provocation was used as the pretext to wage a never ending media onslaught against Qaddafi and Libya combined with years and years of economic sanctions, only lifted when Qaddafi, who finally became a total opportunist, agreed to plead guilty to something he and Libya had nothing to do with in order to have the economic sanctions lifted. A very high-ranking scapegoat, bdelbaset Mohmed Ali al-Megrahi, the former Director of the Centre for Strategic Studies in Tripoli, agreed to go to jail for the sake of having the economic sanctions removed. The Scottish government with the support of British Petroleum, who knew the whole thing was a total farce, later freed him for medical reasons. British Petroleum wanted access to and concessions from Libya which they received! The U.S. has a long history of blowing up airliners and sinking ships and then blaming the victim in order to create a pretext to start wars and invade countries. On June 23, 1985 the U.S. blew up Air India Flight 182 after Rajiv Ghandhi during his visit to the U.S told Ronald Reagan he had no intention of becoming a political ally of the U.S. and taking a position against the USSR. THINK MOTIVE! The Air India bombing occurred shortly after that. Later, Rajiv Ghandhi was assassinated outright on May 21, 1991 by the U.S., which is the only country which had the actual MOTIVE, which was to set a precedent and intimidate any others who would thumb their nose at the United States. The U.S. is also the only country which had the so-called “intelligence,” the spying capability and technical capability to know precisely where the extremely popular Rajiv Ghandhi would be in order to allow the transportation of the Tamil Tiger assassin/suicide bomber Thenmozhi Rajaratnam to the tiny obscure village, Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu state.

Obama brazenly telegraphed U.S/NATO intentions in Libya by comparing Libya to Yugoslavia (!), where the U.S. ever since the end of WWII had fanned the flames of national and ethnic divisions through “Radio Free Europe” and VOA, in a country where everyone got along peacefully and well under Marshall Tito, intermarrying and living together, despite the false U.S. propaganda barrage. Tito died in 1980. So in 1992, after the 1988 Soviet surrender to the threat of a nuclear war (see below) and after the USSR had already given the U.S. the green light to invade Kuwait and Iraq in 1991, Russia gave the green light to the U.S. and NATO to use the Strategy of Divide and Conquer with Yugoslavia. The U.S. deliberately played national groups and ethnic/religious groups off against one another in the Bosnian War, and by using highly radioactive DEPLETED URANIUM in U.S. munitions as they had in the 1991 Persian Gulf Slaughter, made large sections of former Yugoslavia radioactive even today! U.S. Divide and Conquer and Atrocities in Yugoslavia

Atrocities, such as the July 1995 Srebrenica Massacre, were used in order to provide a pretext for Fascist Croat and U.S. backed ethnic cleansing of Serbs and Bosnian Muslims in Western Bosnia, which involved several hundred thousand Serbs from the Krajina area in Croatia and was almost entirely covered up by the capitalist media. That massive ethnic cleansing operation was carried out with U.S. approval and logistical support within a month of the Srebrenica events, and it involved the killing of more Serb civilians than Bosnian Muslim civilians killed in the Srebrenica area in July. Kosovo Albanians led by the Fascist KLA and backed by the U.S. intensified anti-Serb, anti-Montenegrin and anti-Macedonian riots, which began within a year after Tito’s death, provided a pretext for the Serbian call for a de-Albanianization of Kosovo and a revocation of Kosovo autonomy and caused a large migration of Serbs out of Kosovo in the mid-1980s. That in turn resulted in the KLA call for a “greater Albania” including all the Albanians living in Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia. Those charged with the Srebrenica Massacre were former Communists/Serbian nationalists who received false promises from and became paid proxies of (later cutout patsies of) the U.S., but who were discarded and later hypocritically denounced by the U.S. as “war criminals,” arrested and sent to the so-called “International Criminal Court (ICC)” in The Hague. Some high profile cases were later poisoned outright in their jail cells AFTER they had WON their case in court, e.g. Slobodan Milosevic (BBC TV) in March 2006. Radovan Karadzic, the latest U.S. patsy cutout is facing the same false blame-the-victim charges as Milosevic and possibly the same sort of fate especially if he wins his case. The U.S. has instructed its stooge ICC to not give Karadzic the time he needs to prepare his case and has instructed its media to downplay this trial as much as possible. The U.S. was behind EVERYTHING in the Bosnian War but has declared that IT is IMMUNE from any and all actions and findings of the ICC! Although it made a pro forma protest against the U.S.-instigated “independence” of Kosovo, the present opportunized Serbian government is now a virtual U.S. puppet/proxy state which was installed after the final U.S. division of Yugoslavia.

The capitalists’ divide and conquer efforts also included on May 22, 2006 the division of Montenegro from Serbia thereby waging economic war against the Serbian people and permanently cutting it off from the sea! The U.S. had already installed a puppet government in place in Serbia to facilitate this divide and conquer of Yugoslavia and also granted “independence” to Kosovo, which is an integral part of Serbia. The U.S. puppet government in Serbia only went through the motions of “protest” when the United States and NATO countries granted Kosovo “independence.” Kosovo has another name: Camp Bondsteel, the largest U.S. military base built in Europe in a generation. Kosovo is a U.S./NATO puppet and is run by an appointed High Representative and bodies appointed by the U.S., European Union and NATO. An old-style colonial viceroy and imperialist administrators have control over all aspects of foreign and domestic policy. The U.S. has merely consolidated its direct control of a totally dependent colony in the heart of the Balkans. The “independence” of Kosovo is in direct violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, which the leaders of Yugoslavia were forced to sign to end the 78 days of NATO bombing of their country in 1999. Even this imposed agreement affirmed the “commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Serbia, a republic of Yugoslavia. U.S. imperialist domination does not benefit the occupied people. Kosovo after nine years of direct NATO military occupation had a staggering 60 percent unemployment rate. It has become a center of the international drug trade and of prostitution rings in Europe. The once humming mines, mills, smelters, refining centers and railroads of this small resource-rich industrial area all sit silent. The resources of Kosovo under NATO occupation were forcibly privatized and sold to giant Western multinational corporations. Cheney’s Halliburton of course, got the contract to build Camp Bondsteel in the first place. Now almost the only employment in Kosovo is working for the U.S./NATO army of occupation or U.N. agencies. The U.S. base guards the strategic oil and transportation lines of the entire region. Over 250,000 Serbian, Romani and other nationalities have been driven out of this Serbian province since it came under U.S./NATO control. Almost a quarter of even the Albanian population (!) has been forced to leave in order to find work. On Russia Today TV, the lawyer for Radovan Karadzic, Svetozar Vujacic, stated that Karadzic believed that it was just a matter of time before he (Karadzic) was poisoned on orders of the U.S. and NATO. Vujacic also confirmed that the “Civil War in Herzegovina was provoked by Germany, England, the Vatican and the United States.”

Gadafijev sin optimističan: Režim će savladati pobunu

Seif el-Islam, sin libijskog pukovnika Moamera Gadafija, izjavio je u utorak navečer da je "vrlo optimističan" i da će režim savladati pobunu koja potresa zemlju već dva mjeseca."Vrlo sam optimističan i mi ćemo pobijediti", izjavio je Seif el-Islam u jednoj tv-emisiji na njegovoj televiziji Allibya.
"Situacija se svaki dan mijenja u našu korist", izjavio je on.
Dodao je da režim "ne pokušava da se osveti" pobunjenicima, naročito u Bengaziju, uporištu opozicije, 1000 kilometara udaljenom istočno od Tripolija.
On je ocijenio da su vođe pobune u Misrati i Zentenu ili "trgovci drogom, ili poslovni ljudi koji žele izbjeći plaćanje kredita od nekoliko desetaka miliona dolara".
Gadafijev sin je izjavio da su dovedeni u pitanje projekti od nekoliko milijardi dolara zbog nesigurnosti i odlaska nekoliko desetaka hiljada stranih radnika.
"Sve će doći u red", kazao je on. "Obnovit će se projekti i stranci će se vratiti u zemlju", kazao je on bez drugih pojedinosti.
Nakon pobune protiv Moamera Gadafija polovinom februara, "Libija više neće biti kao što je bila", kazao je sin libijskog vođe i obećao ustav čiji je nacrt nedavno prezentiran novinarima u Tripoliju.

Mislim da se Libija ne moze vise vracati u proslost i biti u drzavi kojoj vlada Gadhafi jer Gadhafi je zavrsio sa svojom vladavinom i Libijski narod zeli jednu drzavu koja ce biti bez Gadhafija i njegove porodice jer Libijski narod zeli demokraciju kojom ce vladati narod i kojom ce narod sam izabirati kojim putem ce se kretati Libija.Libija mora postati Islamskom drzavoim jer sama zastava kojom se ustanici predstvaljaju oznacava Islamsku drzavu jer radi se o Polumjesecu i Zvijezdi kojom se ustanici vode a to je stara zastava Libije i ona mora postati Islamskom drzavom koja ce biti primjer svim drzavama jer Amerika se ne moze mijesati o buducnosti Libiuje jer sam Libijski narod zeli izabrarti put kojim ce se voditi Libija jer Libija treba postati Islamskom drzavom sa svim elementima demokracije.Znaci predsjednik ce se izabirati sa mandatom i on ce slijediti taj mandat i imat ce ogranicenje dokle smije vladati a ne kao sto je slucaj sa Gadhafijem koji vlada 42 godine.Libijska zemlja je zemlja muslimana i Libijci zele da izgrade puno dzamija kako bi se mogli klanjati Allahu i kako bi mogli izgraditi zemlju na bgazi Islama.
