International mission to be carried out at Russian-held nuclear plant in Ukraine due to 'clear and present' safety risk
A group of international experts are due to be sent to a Russian-held nuclear power plant in Ukraine after a "clear and present" safety risk was found.
The United Nations nuclear watchdog said the mission would be sent to the plant in Zaporizhzhia following an appeal from the Ukrainian government.
Rafael Mariano Grossi, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said there is a "clear and present risk to the safety, security and safeguards" and "at least five of the seven indispensable pillars of nuclear safety and security have been compromised".
He added that there is "concern" about the supply of spare parts to the plant as well.
The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been under Russian control since early March.
