Ево ти из једног старог француског хералдичког речника о бојама у хералдичким грбовима. има неколико грешака из старих израза које нисам могао исправити, али нису значајни.
Of how many metals and colours the Armorial bearings must compose & make, & what belongs to them, & with their blazon, & which kinds of warp & how many.
Knowing that to pass more in addition to, I am telling you , that all Armorial bearings are made up of two things, that is two metals, Or & Argent, & of five colours, which name Gueulles, which is Rouge, of Cinnabar or Vermilion, Azure, which is blue, Sable, which is black, Sinople, which is green, & Pourpre, which is composed of Azure & Red: who are Metals & the Colours which are there, & are in a number of seven only, & and no more.
It fault also to hear this characteristic, which is a general & unquestionable rule in Armorial bearings. That there is of two kinds of Warp ends so much only: to know, of Ermines, & Squirrel fur, or Vairy: who are each one of a metal & a colour. Because Ermine is of silver & sand, & Squirrel fur, of silver & azure. However while in heraldy, one does not specify them, but in a word one says: Such Lord carries of Ermine, or Squirrel fur; except when they are of other metal & colour, but then one must say: Such Signor carries of ermine, or Squirrel fur, of Gold, Synople, Gueulle, or in addition to. As we will see after, by the figures of coat of arms .
In what follows one can see what in the past was heard by two metals, & five colours, for the ornament of the armorial bearings of the Emperors, Kings, Princes, Knights, Gentil-hommes, noble & vaillans Capitaines according to the opinion of the Caldeans antiques & others payens: mainly according to the Greeks, who attributed some virtues with their gods, goddesses, & special to the seven planets, according to whether they showed them so much in painting than in sculpture, them appropriate with each ones colour: by making them idols, which they coloured of these colours: & of the name of which, they expressly named the days after them, and of what was meant by the twelve celestial signs, twelve Months, the invaluable four Elements, stones, numbers, & other similar things.
