Many changes to the squad for Slovakia game
Many problems for John Toshack when it comes to suspensions and injuries. Velice Sumulikoski is suspended because of a red card in the Armenia game while both Goran Popov and Mirko Ivanovski picked up their second yellow cards of the competition against Armenia so they are also suspended for Tuesday's game. With regards to injuries, Goran Pandev, Daniel Georgievski, Ferhan Hasani, and Aleksandar Trajkovski have been ruled out for the Slovakia game while Muarem Muarem is complaining of an injury and might also miss the game.
So, with all those players missing for the Slovakia game, Toshack has called up four players from the Macedonian U21 national team.
The players called up include Stefan Spirovski, Samir Fazli, Stefan Ristovski, and Stole Dimitrievski.
John Toshack was very disappointed with the lack of discipline by the players. He said, "It is very hard to reach good results when it seems that in every game you have three regular players missing. I'm hopeful that we will field a good team for the Slovakia game because we are professional and have to stand firm. Now, I don't even want to think that some of the players are picking up yellow cards on purpose in order to spend more time with their family. If players are picking cards on purpose, then we need to pack our bags and leave. We will talk with the players and try to fix the lack of discipline on the pitch because picking up cards and protesting with the referee will not lead to good results."
Toshach added, "We have to look at the potential internationals to get a real picture for the next qualifications. The lack of efficiency is a problem so for the Albania friendly in November, I will call up both Stevica Ristić and Ilco Naumoski. Every player who deserves to be on the team with their quality will be part of the team moving forward. The situation in Macedonian football is clear to you guys and only one or two players from the domestic league can be featured in a team of 11 players."
John Toshack finished the press conference by saying these last two games show how much we miss captain Goran Pandev. Macedonia missed him not only as a player but also as a leader. Toshack was also disappointed with Ferhan Hasani. Toshack stated in today's press conference that Hasani told him he was injured but then played all 90 minutes for the Macedonian U21 team in the game against Serbia. He wanted to call him up to the senior national team so he was disappointed that he was lied to. Toshack wants to conclude the EURO 2012 qualifications with a good result against Slovakia. The manager also said it will be hard to motivate the players after a heavy defeat against Armenia but everyone is a professional and must be prepared for this duel.
