A single image can show what words often can’t the scale of our plastic problem.
Every year, an estimated 11 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean, choking coral reefs, killing marine species, and breaking down into invisible microplastics that end up on our plates.
Studies show the Philippines alone leaks more than 356,000 metric tons of plastic into the sea each year more than any other country. Other major contributors include India, Malaysia, China, and Indonesia, whose rivers and coastlines funnel huge amounts of waste into the ocean. Together, they account for more than half of global marine plastic pollution.
Experts warn that if trends continue, by 2050 our oceans could contain more plastic than fish by weight. The cost isn’t just environmental it’s human. Plastics enter our food, our air, and even our bloodstreams.
But change begins with awareness.
Every reduction, every recycled item, every local cleanup matters.
The ocean doesn’t need perfection it needs participation.
