The fifth-generation F-35A fighter has disappeared from radar near the Japanese city of Misawa in Aomori prefecture, media reported.
The incident occurred at 21.27 local time. The plane went missing in the Pacific Ocean 135 km east of the city of Misawa, according to NHK News .
In the plane there was one pilot. The Japanese Self-Defense Forces check the information about the loss of the aircraft, searches are conducted. Two patrol ships are sent to the place of possible fall.
Fighter belongs to the Japanese Air Force Base "Misawa". On the base there are 13 F-35 fighters.
In September 2018, in South Carolina, the F-35B crashed eight kilometers from the Perris Island Marine Corps training unit. It was the first wreck of this fighter and at the moment the only one.
In early October, the F-35 flights were stopped to eliminate the defect in the fuel pipe in the engine. It is because of this malfunction that an F-35 crash occurred in South Carolina.
The Pentagon admitted that the F-35 was “mired in problems,” while the US military was accused of trying to hide the critical defects of a fighter.
