У Србији живи око 250.000 Maкедонаца, али мање од 10% њих се изјашњава да су Македонци по националној припадности.
Дакле, по последњем попису из 2011, има их 22.755.
Имам неке родбинске везе са Македонцима, познајем доста њих и знам како дишу. За живота упознао сам Македонце од 80 година старости до клинаца тинејџера (неки рођени тамо, неки овде) и свега једног јединог правог Македонца, сви остали су Срби, углавном десничари, ретко либерали и левичари.
Када би се сви ови Македонци изјаснили на следећем попису да су Македонци, они би прешишали Мађаре, као најбројнију националну мањину у Србији.
Можда један добар пример је Стефан Стаменковски, пореклом из македонског града Крива Паланка, иначе председник десничарске партије Српског сабора Заветници.

Among other things, he writes "...and I remembered the heavy oppression of the Turk over the emperor in Constantinople and over all Greeks, Macedonians and Bulgarians, and even over the Despot of Rascia and all his subjects, which is very unfortunate for all of Christianity.... And there are many Christians who are forced to serve the Turk, like the Greeks, Bulgarians, Macedonians, Albanians, Sclavonians, ...."

The Traveler Sir John Mandeville, in 1357 travelling through the Balkans wrote that Serbia is a land of Bougiers, while Belgrade in that time was known by the name “Alba Graeca” and “Alba Bulgarica”.
Makedonci bjehu bugari po jeziku i genetici. Ali više nisu, samo zato što im je nacionalna svijest stvorena poslije 1945te ne znači da im je narodnost umanjena. Narodnsot je socijalni koncept koji se stvara kroz vijekove. Jezik im je vrsta bugarskog, ne koriste padeže i koriste sva vremena u svakodnevnom jeziku ako aorist i imperfekat. Istovremeno naj zastupljenija Y haplogrupa je Eb2 isto kao kod bugara, albanaca i grka. Kod srba je I grupa isto kao kod Hrvata i Bošnjaka.
