History of Caudillo

I am now going to tell you what is without a doubt the most important story of my life...

I bought my first Argentinean dogo female without any intention to get into such a demanding dog to breed, but I liked the breed and I bought Yuca de Venored, mother of Caudillo Blanco del Do Yel.

I went to several kennels in Buenos Aires looking for dogos to breed with my female when she was old enough and I had a hard time deciding for one. Finally, I saw one that really impressed me and I had to look no further, this one was going to the the future father of Yuca's puppies: Indio del Litoral.

Once Yuca was was ready to breed, I traveled to Rosario to breed with Indio del Litoral.

Two months later Yuca had 3 puppies: 2 males, Caudillo Blanco del Do Yel y Arauncano del Do Yel; and one female: Ayar del Do Yel. Caudillo was the smallest of them all but it already stood out for his character an d beauty and as he grew, his size caught up with the rest and later surpassed them.

When he was 3 months old I took him to his first show as special puppy and he won. He would then win every single time I entered him in that category except for one loosing to his sister Ayar. He took sixth place. After that he started competing as allround puppy where he was very successful winning several best of breed, groups, best in show, and adult breeds when he was only 9 months old.

When he was 13 months old he became Argentinean champion along with Ayar and that same day he won another best in show. After that I stopped entering him in shows since he was a bit under-weight. When he was 15 months old he started competing again and in 2 consecutive weekends with a total of 10 shows including specialized and general, he won 9 of them taking the title of Argentinean champion and making it to first place in the ranking of all breeds since those two weekends had the shows that gathered the most dogs of all year.

After that came the summer in which there were no shows and he started 2002 winning shows and best in show awards and until the time of his death he was the number 1 Argentinean dogo in the country and fighting for 1st. place in the ranking for all breeds.

Then the worst event in my life took place. Caudillo, who was like a son to me, won the highest possible award of his life that day: the one of hero when he saved my life during a tragic robbery.

Following is what happened. I was parked in my Peugeot Partner van and ready to step out to go to a newsstand close by. Caudillo was in the back in a transport cage. Suddenly a car appeared and parked in front of my van and 2 thugs got out while 2 more stayed in the car. One of them got in my van through the passenger door and told me to get out. I asked him to let me get th e dog but he refused. I asked him again several more times but to no avail and they finally pushed me out of the van with the other thief getting in the driver side. I ran to the back of the van, opened the cargo door and grabbed the cage trying to pull it so it would fall on the ground and they wouldn't take him. At that moment the van started and I pulled the cage again grabbing it by the door. With the weight of Caudillo the door opened and he got out. As told him: "Here, Caudillo!" one of the thieves turned around to shoot. Caudillo looked at me and disobeying my order he lounged at the thieves. Then I heard the first shot which was meant for me.

The van took off and I started running after it. But I couldn't keep up. I kept running as I heard more shots even a block and a half from where the robbery took place. Finally, the thieves lost control of the van and they crashed against a tree. The one on the passenger side got off and got on the car they were using to commit the crime. The two that were on the car got off to help the one that was driving the van. He had been bitten on the neck by Caudillo and later died at a hospital.

Caudillo, who got off the van through the back, started chasing the thug as he escaped but a few feet from him he collapsed and fell to the ground. He had been shot seven times with a caliber 45 pistol. Three times on the ribs area, 1 on the chest, 3 on the throat and one on the muzzle. The thieves escaped and when I arrived to where Caudillo laid he was already dead and still bleeding.

I cannot explain how I felt and what I feel every time I tell the story. The pain is overwhelming.

I have a lot of dogs and will have many more, but no one will be able to replace Caudillo.

The police found two pistols in the van, both were 45 caliber. One had been emptied out. The other, which belonged to the thief that Caudillo attacked was still fully loaded. In other words, he had not been able to fire a single shot.

At the time of his death, Caudillo was 22 months old. He was 66.5 cm. long and weighted 59.7 kg.
