1. 2/22/44 Fifteenth AF B-17’s attack Petershausen M/Y, Regensburg aircraft factory, and
Zagreb. A large force of B-24’s hits Regensburg aircraft plants about the same time as the B-17 attack. Other B-24’s pound town of Sibenik and harbor at Zara. HBs claim 40 ftrs destroyed. 13 HBs are lost
2 .4/6/44 Fifteenth AF B-24’s bomb
Zagreb A/F. Numerous other B-24’s and B-17’s abort because of weather. Escorting ftrs and the HBs claim 17 ftrs destroyed in combat. 6 US aircraft are shot down.
3 .5/24/44 Fifteenth AF 620-plus B-17’s and B-24’s attack Avisio viaduct, Atzgersdorf aircraft components factory, town of Neunkirchen, A/Fs at Munchendorf, Graz, Wollersdorf, Bad Voslau and
Zagreb, and Varazdin M/Y. Escorting ftrs fly over 250 sorties. Enemy ftr opposition is especially heavy against Bad Voslau force, downing 6 HBs.
4. 5/30/44 Fifteenth AF Nearly 500 B-17’s and B-24’s attack A/F and aircraft factory at Wels, factories at Pottendorf, Neudorfl, and Neunkirchen and M/Y at
Zagreb. P-38’s and P-51’s provide escort. Many of the ftrs strafe T/Os in areas around Zut, Brod, Susak, Bihac, Medak, and along Karlovac-Livno road
5. 6/30/44 Fifteenth AF Bad weather causes over 450 HBs and more than 150 ftrs to abort missions. 188 HBs, escorted by 138 ftrs, hit A/F at
Zagreb and T/Os in Hungary and Yugoslavia, including M/Ys at Kaposvar, Osztopan and Split, highway bridge at Brac I, A/F at Banjaluka, and city of Budapest. 130-plus ftrs provide escor
6. 7/7/44 Fifteenth AF 560-plus B-24’s and B-17’s bomb 2 synthetic oil plants at Blechhammer, synthetic oil and coking plant at Odertal, and
Zagreb A/F and M/Y. HBs and ftr escorts claim more than 50 aircraft shot down during fierce battle with 275-300 ftrs mainly in Vienna-Budapest area. 18 US aircraft are listed as destroyed and a larger number missing
7. 1/5/45 Fifteenth AF 1 B-24 bombs
Zagreb railroad sidings. 69 others abort due to total cloud cover over tgt. 38 P-51’s fly cover over tgt area. 33 P-38’s bomb N railroad bridge at Doboj. other operations are limited to rcn, supply drops, and escort.
8. 1/19/45 Fifteenth AF Over 400 HBs attack N and S M/Ys, a railroad bridge, and a highway bridge at Brod. Because of overcast, only 1 of 112 HBs sent against
Zagreb M/Y bombs tgt while others abort. 46 P-38’s bomb S railroad bridge at Doboj and 59 P-51’s sweep from Zagreb to Gyor. Other P-38’s fly rcn missions and rcn escort and cover MATAF B-25’s on supply run
9.2/13/45 Fifteenth AF In the Vienna area 640-plus HBs with ftr spt hit S ordnance depot, S and SE goods yards and depot, C repair shops, and Matzleinsdorf M/Y, and M/Ys at Graz, Sarvar,
Zagreb (2) and Maribor (2), Pula harbor, Maribor locomotive depot and rolling stock repair shops, and several T/Os. P-38’s and P-51’s carry out rcn and rcn escort missions.
10. 3/4/45 Fifteenth AF 630-plus B-24’s and B-17’s, with ftr escort, bomb M/Ys at Sopron (2), Szombathely, Knittelfeld, Zelfweg, Graz, Sankt Veit an der Glan, Wiener-Neustadt,
Zagreb (2) and Ljubljana, and several scattered T/Os. Other B-24’s, with P-51 escort, drop supplies in Yugoslavia. P-38’s and P-51’s fly rcn and rcn escort operations.
11.3/12/45 Twelfth AF B-25’s hit 7 railroad bridges, cutting two, and fills severely damaging one and a train in Brenner area and in NE Italy as far E as Yugoslav border area. FBs blast comm in N Italy, making 36 rail cuts, 19 of them on the Brenner line. P-47’s also bomb and severely damage a munitions factory NW of
Zagreb . During 11/12 Mar LBs on intruder missions hit Po crossings, sugar refinery, vehicles, and trains.
12. 3/14/45 Fifteenth AF 634 HBs, with ftr escorts, hit Szony and Almasfuzito oil refineries and M/Ys at Komarom, Nove Zamky,
Zagreb , WienerNeustadt, Graz, and Knittelfeld. 90 P-38’s dive-bomb bridges at Ptuj, 42 of them afterwards strafing rail traffic in Yugoslavia and Austria. 21 P-51’s also strafe rail traffic in Austria. B-17’s and B-24’s drop supplies in N Italy and in Yugoslavia. P-38’s continue rcn missions, including larger than usual number of photo rcn flights (most of them heavily escorted) over Italy, Germany, Austria, and Yugoslavia.
