Zanetti, Inter Go Racing
"I WILL KEEP GOING UNTIL THE SECOND STAR"
"I already started training from July 1st but I am not the only one with this hunger. No one wants to stop at the night in Madrid."
Milan - Javier Zanetti, where are you?
"I am in South Africa, commenting a game at the World Cup for a Mexican television."
So, rooting for Sneijder.
"I am very happy for Wesley and I've heard he is charged up. And then the referee Webb, the man who directed the Champions League final..."
Tomorrow, Inter, champions of everything will resume work. On Tuesday, you will return of course. A bit overweight perhaps?
"To avoid problems I already resumed training with a certain intensity from July 1st."
Well, nothing new for those who trained on wedding day and on August 10, you will turn 37. When will you stop?
"Not before the second star. We have 18 Scudetti and two are missing. I am hungry, very hungry."
And the rest of the group?
"Same thing, we will play for several trophies this season. No one wants to stop at the night in Madrid."
What did Mourinho leave behind?
"Lots of security within the group. Thanks to him we've discovered ourselves as a strong group, very strong group. He left us a true culture of work. We won't achieve anything without the effort and now Inter are a war machine in this sense."
What do you think Rafa Benitez will bring?
"Additional injections of experience and enthusiasm. Coming to Inter is an manager who is capable of winning, and it will be even better for him to manage an environment full of champions such as ours. Benitez has charisma, and his work ethic will facilitate this group, a group that refuses to give up anything, starting from the Italian Super Cup."
Any personal goals?
"Continue to write history of Inter, my Inter, my home. And I will be doing it with the same group as last year."
Well, Milito is staying.
"Yeah and I'm happy. Diego is a friend, but above all an exceptional striker. Score many many goals but at the same time working for the team as a midfielder."
Maicon?
"A phenomenon, hoping he stays."
And Balotelli?
"Okay, stop with this little game. The team will think about the buying and it is not for me to comment on the arrivals and departures. One thing is certain with Moratti: Inter will be competitive on the highest level. That what counts."
But is it bothering you that Balotelli never says something like "I'm staying".
"He is just waiting to see what is better for him. I, however, believe that after a season like last year he understood what it takes to be part of such an important group. There are rules and those must be respected. He was out for sometime because his behavior was not acceptable, then I saw him very happy after each team's victory. I hope that he can receive the experience needed because one with his quality can be really useful."
You also want Santon to redeem himself.
"Yes, but it is a different discussion."
What?
"Davide had physical problems last season."
Is he ready to be a starter?
"He's ready to play in a great team like Inter, where no one can and must feel as an irremovable starter. I am very happy for him because people have told me that now he is doing very well. He can work in a team from day one and I am convinced that he will recover everything that escaped him last season. The important thing is that these guys understand how lucky they are, so young and yet part of the most prestigious clubs in the world."
The kids are dreaming, the seniors are leaving. Toldo's retired.
"I found out here in South Africa. I regret very much, just want to see him coming to Milan. Francesco was an outstanding goalkeeper, and deserves much praise. It was one of the great protagonists on world football. He has the qualities that very uncommon. An exceptional man in the dressing room, one of the most important keys to our victories."
After each goal of Inter, you ran to the bench and hugged him. Why?
"Because we are very united and with that gesture I wanted to involve everyone, even those who usually play less. All of us are important in winning Cups and Scudetti. Without a solid dressing room, we are not going anywhere."
And what is next for Inter?
"I hope to direct us into the history of world football. I want the three Cups that we will be playing for in 2010 and then think about the Scudetto and the Champions League."
In Italy, you seem a step above everyone else.
"We need to wait at the end of the transfer window before talking. We will have dangerous rivals, I'm sure. Milan, Roma, and Juventus will be reinforced. And maybe there are a few surprises like Sampdoria last year. The Italian league, I think, is a bit better than in the past. Beyond the great history, it is never easy to beat teams like Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Samp, Napoli, Palermo, Lazio and Genoa. There are real dangers on the field."
In Europe it will be much harder.
"Recurrence is very hard but I'm sure we'll go far."
Who is more dangerous Mou's Real or Messi's Barca?
"The problem is that not just the Spanish but the English as well."
