JUST LIKE OLD TIMES AT SAN SIRO
16/03/2006
It was like old times at the San Siro on Wednesday evening as the names that made Milan the club it is today gathered for Demetrio Albertini's farewell to football. Adriano Galliani was joined by Marco Van Basten and Arrigo Sacchi as they spoke to the Milan Channel. The chief executive said: 'I don't want to offend anyone but Milan are the most wonderful, the most satisfying and aesthetically pleasing to watch, maybe because I was here first along with Sacchi and Van Basten who I always say is the best player we ever had.' The Dutch star then said: 'It was a great period when I was at Milan. The club was at the centre of everything and I was proud to be here. I took from and gave the fans a lot of emotion. As for Demetrio, if I don't remember badly we sent him to Padova to learn a bit, then he came back to be a great player for ten years.' Sacchi had this to say: 'It was a great pleasure to be here. It was a positive and useful experience which will remain with me for the rest of my life.'
BEHIND THE ROSSONERI STORY
16/03/2006
The great Rossoneri characters spoke to Milan Channel last night:
PAOLO BERLUSCONI: 'It seemed like an evening with your school friends, catching up on old times after all these years. There were smiles all round, with everyone here and it was great to see them all on the pitch again.'
CARLO ANCELOTTI: 'That was an incredible goal by Demetrio this evening. It reminded me of my double at Verona. It's only here something like that can happen.'
DEMETRIO ALBERTINI: 'It was a marvelous party. I worked hard to organise it and for a long time I didn't know how it would turn out. Now I can say it was really wonderful.'
RUUD GULLIT: 'It's emotional to see all my former team-mates again. I didn't know if I still had it on the pitch anymore. It was strange when I ended my career and I had to live another life. Van Basten's goal this evening was just normal for him.'
GEORGE WEAH: 'It was great to enjoy this evening for Demetrio Albertini. It was good to prepare for this game without having anything to do with politics. Them, playing in a sporting city such as Milan is always a pleasure.'
MARCEL DESAILLY: 'It's great to be back at the San Siro after all these years. It's good to see Milan are still strong. I am here for Demetrio and we ran a lot for our team-mates who had more talent going forward. As for the Marseille-Milan final, there was nothing strange before it and if anything had been offered to me I wouldn't have taken it.'
JEAN PIERRE PAPIN: 'I train every day, I play tennis. I need to do sport every day of my life. Sport and friendship are great things, friendship stays forever. When I came to Milan, Demetrio helped me settle in.'
