Call for Submissions: Superscape 2022 - GREEN SHIFT - Visions for sustainable living

Superscape is a biannual prize that seeks to encourage innovative and visionary architectural concepts that explore new models of living and strategies for inhabiting an urban context over a broad expanse of 30 years. Reflecting processes of change, Superscape opens a creative space for unconventional ideas meant to deliver new impulses to real-life architectural output and urban development.

2022 THEME: GREEN SHIFT - Visions for sustainable living

The urgency of the climate crisis, which is being felt globally, is the starting point for a broad process of rethinking that has also taken hold in the construction industry. The long-term protection of the environment and climate, not least as a qualitative habitat for humans and animals, is one of the most urgent goals of modern architecture.

In the context of digital networking, social sustainability, smart cities and climate care, it is important to explore innovative potentials and problem solutions of architecture as well as to dare visionary views of the future and design experiments that address future challenges of urban space in the year 2050.

Architecture of Necessity – invitation

Architecture of Necessity, an international triennial for sustainable community building, is held by Virserum Konsthall with the support of the Municipality of Hultsfred and the Regional Federation of Kalmar County. The call is now open!

What entries can be submitted?
Entries can be along the whole scale from installations and buildings to city or community planning projects. Submissions have to fall within the scope of the manifesto Architecture of Necessity. You can read the manifesto here – https://www.virserumskonsthall.com/appeal-for-an-architecture-of-necessity/. The international manifesto on the Architecture of Necessity was first launched in 2009. For the exhibitions in 2010, 2013, 2016 and 2019 more than 600 entries have been submitted from more than 40 countries.

Considering the pressing issues of today what could be called not only sustainable but “regenerative design” is searched for. The jury would also especially love to see entries that deal with the rural or “rurban” context – activation of neglected places as well as reactivation of forgotten places, both with transformation of existing buildings and with new typologies, for example combining living, work and “freespace”. Like many others we are looking for an architectural language, developed for smaller cities and places, integrating landscape, typology and details and materials. Entries could be unbuilt projects, but acknowledging the well-known “implementation deficit” in sustainable building we give a certain priority to built projects.

Entries are accepted from professionally active individuals or legal persons such as architectural bureaus, building contractors, local governments or other entities. The submitted project must be dated between 2019 and 2022.

How should the entries be presented?
Entries should be presented mainly in drawings, diagrams, renderings and photos with a short text explaining how the five criterions of the Architecture of Necessity have been taken into consideration. The presentation should be on four A3 pages, landscape format, in one PDF document. Maximum file size 20 MB. The text should be in English in 12 p.

Every entry must be submitted only once, via email. This email should contain: Complete contact details of the participant (name, telephone number, mobile phone number, postal address and current email address). The project should be attached to the email as a single PDF document. Please submit entries to: arc@virserumskonsthall.com

Participation
Entries should be submitted to Virserum Konsthall no later than 28th March 2022. Entrants chosen for inclusion in the exhibition will be notified no later than18th April 2022. Successful participants are then required to supply high-resolution material as instructed by Virserum Konsthall. The jury will select three to five winners. Winners will be notified by 20th May 2022.

Taking part in the first selection process is free of charge. Entrants who are chosen for the exhibition will be required to pay a EUR 250 + VAT service charge per chosen project. All chosen projects will be published in the book about the project Wood 2022 with a special part on the Architecture of Necessity. The service charge is invoiced and payable to Virserum Konsthall no later than 10th June 2022.

Publication
The winners will be announced 20th May 2022. They will be reimbursed with 1200 €, plus travel expenses to Virserum, as well as accommodation for one person to take part in the opening of the exhibition and to speak about the project at the conference Architecture of Necessity the same day. The conference will be held at site in Virserum and live streamed.

Jury and Exhibition
The jury is responsible for the selection of entries and the winners. It is led by Claes Caldenby, professor of architectural theory and history at Chalmers university of technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. The other members are Nils Björling and Julia Fredriksson from Chalmers university of technology, Katy Chada and Ogmund Sørli from Pir II AS, Trondheim, and Marine Miroux and Leon Radeljć from ZRS Architects, Berlin. The exhibition will be held at Virserum Konsthall between 16th June and 4th December 2022.

Hello,

The BAM team is pleased to announce the opening of its new competition :

Passive House construction in Seignosse

We hope that you will be interested in the subject and that you will want to take up this new architectural challenge!

"The project of this house is demanding and pragmatic. Without pretension, the look of the house will have to reflect its uses: the setting for simple pleasures. It is at the same time that of a warm family house, where we will receive families and friends; of a house of weekend and long vacations; of a house where we will remote work; of a minimalist house skilfully disordered; where everyone will be able to be quiet, not far from the general agitation.
Consistent with the family's lifestyle, the project should be resilient and constructively smart to reduce its carbon footprint and consumption of natural resources. Wherever relevant, choices should be made to preserve the environment.

The challenge is to find the right balance between comfortable and compact spaces, bold and sober architecture. A spacious house without being sumptuous, a generous luminosity without environmental sacrifice, a functional house with the charm of the vernacular architecture."

Registrations for the competition are open until November 30th. Visit our website to find the details of the project as well as the complete application procedure.

We wish you good luck!

GHANA INNOVATION FARM

Brief

Some paradoxes are particularly painful.

There is much talk of space race, rapid and relentless consumption of resources. Many people have too much, far beyond what is necessary. Yet, in numerous places of the world, people are still suffering from hunger.

There are no simple solutions to the gaps that have always affected human society. Still, what is certain is that often poverty is not caused by insufficient natural resources.

One third of the population of the Global South practices agriculture in contexts that are highly suited to such activity. Yet, despite a favorable climate and right soil conditions, it is precisely these peoples that obtain less value from the agri-food supply chain. This is because often the main causes of vulnerability are not natural but infrastructural.
In order to guarantee sufficient nutriment, both production aspects and the possibility to preserve food or food resources play a crucial role.

The cold chain is one of the core issues of the global nutrition challenge. InspiraFarms is well aware of that. For more than 10 years, it has been at the forefront in promoting technological development and dissemination together with the construction of facilities able to stabilize and preserve food produced in emerging countries.

Consistently with the United Nations goals, in one of the emerging African agricultural scenarios, InspiraFarms is about to build a technological and cultural hub to address the global challenges of food supply chains. It will generate a greater availability of products and job opportunities in a place where more than 25% of the local population live below the poverty line.

In this hub, a system of infrastructures and a training center will share with the local population knowledge and technologies to meet their needs. This will be achieved by developing strategies to make their activities more competitive and seeking new ways to create jobs and opportunities especially for young women and segments of the population facing higher risks.

This is the goal of Ghana Innovation Farm It is the third edition of the Manni Group Design Award, which is InspiraFarms’ ally for the creation of a beacon of culture and innovation. It shall become a reference for the local community providing resources, knowledge, and solutions able to meet the most basic of human rights: access to food.

Manni Group and YAC thank all the architects who will take part in this challenge.

Reuse the Lake Chapel – San Giovanni in Val di Lago

Submission: February 11, 2022
Registration: February 11, 2022
Language: English
Location: Val di Lago, Italy
Prizes: Please see details below
Type: Open

The fourth edition of the cultural project Reuse Italy promotes an international architecture competition on the reuse of the “Lake Chapel”, a small octagonal church on the shores of the lake of Bolsena, and faces the issue of the enhancement of ancient pilgrimage routes, as the Via Francigena. This route can be the key-strategy to relaunch this ruin, with new functions related to the pilgrim path. The competition, in fact, open to architects, engineers and students, asks the participants to transform the ruin into a pilgrims accommodation and cultural event center.

reuse italy
The contest is organized in partnership with ArchDaily, KooZA/rch, Graphisoft, and with the official support of the Municipality of San Lorenzo Nuovo (VT).
San Giovanni in Val di Lago is a former catholic church, built in the middle of the sixteenth century, on the ruins of an ancient medieval church along the Via Francigena. When the nearby city of San Lorenzo was relocated during the eighteenth century, due to various factors, the church was definitely abandoned as well.
The deadline is February 10th. It’s requested one A1 board. The total prizes are 4000 Euro. The submitted projects will be displayed at an exhibition in April 2021 in San Lorenzo Nuovo. In addition to receiving a prize, the winners will be invited to explain their project to the citizenry.

INTERNATIONAL ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION

THE LAST

GENOCIDE MEMORIAL

PRIZE FUND10,000 € + CONSTRUCTION
REGISTRATION DEADLINE12 November, 2021

Competition introduction

The number of deaths caused by genocide in the 20th century was at its peak during World War II, and the Holocaust remains one of the darkest moments in human history. Since then, the number of people killed in genocides has drastically decreased, but the number of communities still targeted specifically for their ethnicity, religion, or political beliefs has remained fairly consistent.

When the United Nations was first assembled after the end of the war, it affirmed the crime of genocide as being “a denial of the right of existence of entire human groups, as homicide is the denial of the right to live of individual human beings.”

Unfortunately, since World War II ended, genocides have still occurred during the communization of Eastern Europe, China’s land reform, and Chinese collectivization, as well as the genocides that have taken place in Pakistan, Cambodia, Rwanda, and Sri Lanka.

For The Last Genocide Memorial competition, we are calling for submissions for a memorial that honours all the victims of genocides throughout history. Participants are tasked with exploring architecture as a tool that can help to communicate these tragedies to different groups of people around the world. The memorial needs to educate visitors of the causes of these terrible events, their impact on the wider communities, how they’re still affected to this day, and do so in a sensitive way that shows respect to the many individuals who lost their lives during genocides.

The Last Genocide Memorial competition is being run in partnership with the City of Brampton Canada, Brampton Tamil Association (BTA), and Brampton Tamil Seniors Association (BTSA). They’re currently calling for legislation to recognise the atrocities that took place in the Sri Lankan Civil War, in which thousands of civilians lost their lives.

Winning designs of the Last Genocide Memorial competition will be put forward for consideration for construction, and so practical aspects will need to be carefully considered for a proposed site with a 3.7 meter diameter and 5.5 meter height.

Download full competition brief for more information!

Competition is open to all. No professional qualification is required. Design proposals can be developed individually or by teams (4 team members maximum). Correspondence with organizers must be conducted in English; All information submitted by participants must be in English.

Jianhu (Jian Lake) is the origin of local Yue civilization. It has witnessed the vitality and development of the city for thousands of years. Sitting at the junction between the Keqiao urban zone and Kuaiji Mountain landscape, it features a unique blended context of “mountain, lake, city and farmland”, and also a number of beautiful humanistic stories. Today, under Keqiao’s development positioning—the “International Textile Capital”, Jianhu is opening up and embracing creativity altogether.

Under the background of a new era, we would like to invite global planners, architects, and designers, hereby to submit your “transcending” proposals along the lakeshore, thus to create a revived, prosperous Jianhu that transcends time and space, transcends imagination, carries and reveals the super Yue culture, and goes beyond it!

Introduction

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Born in Han Dynasty, Jianhu is a vivid practice of the “King Yu flood control” spirit. It has witnessed the convergence of mountains and seas in prehistoric times and the pioneering creation of the ancient Yue ethnic group. Its poetry culture arose in Tang Dynasty, and more than a thousand of glorious poems such as “Walking at the Shanyin trail is like roaming on a mirror”, “People living in Six Dynasties were not attracted by the West Lake ever” have portrayed the endless charms of it. Also, since ancient time, Jianhu has been the only water source of the globally famous Shaoxing rice wine—it is an epitome of the local profound wisdom, emotions, stories, and lifestyles.
Today, Jianhu represents multiple important interfaces including an ecological network, historical genealogy, urban function, human life, industrial iteration, and tourism. The future of Jianhu is not only about the prosperity of a local water resource, but also the link of spirit in Yue Region from ancient times till now, as well as the exploration of ecological civilization community by planners, architects, and designers.

COMPETITION SCOPE & DESIGN BRIEF

The competition includes two sections, which are conceptual planning and urban design.

Desert Accommodation

Submission: November 10, 2021
Registration: November 7, 2021
Language: English,
Location: Riyadh
Prizes: Please see details below
Type: Open

YAC – Young Architects Competitions – and Jarir Development launch Desert Accommodation, a competition of ideas aiming to design a luxury oasis in the Najd plateau overlooking the most brutal and fatal desert of the planet.

The cash prize of € 15, 000 will be distributed to the winning proposals selected by an international jury panel composed of some of the most world-renowned architects: Sou Fujimoto, Eli Synnevåg (Snøhetta), Lorenzo Boddi (BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group), Carlo Ratti, Ben Van Berkel (UNStudio), and Emiliano Roia (MORQ).
sahara accomodation

BRIEF

Al Sahara.
There are no other places on earth that can live up to the vast Arabian desert.
Prophets, treasures, lost cities: Al Sahara is the place of the supernatural. Indeed, only the supernatural can live where not even Bedouins dare to enter.
Al Sahara is the place where exploration stops. Here, human ambitions are annihilated, and vanity is overwhelmed. This is because the desert cannot be tamed, comprehended, or measured. The desert can only be contemplated from a distance in the hope of being ignored by its sands. The same sands that on countless occasions surged to demand a tribute of lives, civilizations, and wealth.
In the desert life is impossible. However, at the desert’s edge one can live some of the most intense experiences humans can ever experience: bitter cold, burning heat, silence, sand dunes singing, mirages, sunsets, skies studded with stars and especially lush oases.
Living at the edge of the desert is a privilege for the few. Such privilege is the origin of Desert Accommodation.
Desert Accommodation is YAC’s and Jarir Development’s competition with the goal of designing a guest house for a new settlement of large villas at the borders of Riyadh. Moreover, it aims at exploring the potential of contemporary architecture in one of the last and most majestic sanctuaries of mother nature.
What kinds of hospitality can be designed in the most inhospitable place by definition?
By providing an answer to such a pivotal question, architects will have the opportunity to design a luxury oasis in the Najd plateau overlooking the most brutal and fatal desert of the planet. It will be a contemporary oasis where to relax in the shade of palm and fruit trees enjoying the immense expanse of the desert. Furthermore, it will be a place where to dive in a fresh swimming pool admiring incandescent sands reflecting the sunset. Here, guests will have the opportunity to watch the imminent shade of sandstorms over the horizon protected by the surrounding architectures.
It will be a refuge for the body but especially a hermitage for the spirit. This is because the oasis and the desert are opposites that involve human beings in all their complexity. In fact, according to an old saying of the nomads of the desert: “God created oases so that people can live in them, and the desert so that they can find their soul again”.

7 Annual Competitions Every Architecture Student Should Try at Least Once

7 Annual Competitions Every Architecture Student Should Try at Least Once

Fairy Tales 2017 Competition Winner: Last Day / Mykhailo Ponomarenko. Image Courtesy of Blank Space
When you’re used to the grind of architecture school, breaks can hit you like rain on a warm day—cool at first, but terribly annoying soon enough. While the first few days breeze past as you catch-up on lost sleep and binge-watch Game of Thrones, you realize before long that you’re going insane with nothing to absorb all your new-found energy.

This is where architectural competitions come in handy. They provide a constructive outlet while being deeply engrossing, thus keeping you from hopelessly refreshing Youtube to see if Buzzfeed uploaded a new video. Also, the fact that you’re no longer constrained by the direction of your studio-leader or school program enables you to experiment creatively. With diverse international competitions running at any given time, you can take your pick, depending on your individual interests and the amount of time you want to devote. However, the sheer number of available competitions can be deeply confusing as well. Here we shortlist seven of the most prestigious annual architectural competitions open to students:

1. 120 Hours: Designing with a Short Deadline

Save this picture!

2017 Winner: IN’N’OUT VILLAGE / Agnieszka Kołacińska and Jakub Andrzejewski. Image Courtesy of 120 Hours
Usually runs: Late February.

This student-driven international competition uses a unique format where participants receive a mere 120 hours from the release of the brief to the project submission deadline in order to solve a complex and socially relevant assignment. Organized independently by students from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, 120 Hours works on a non-profit basis—it charges no participation fee—and is based around topical subjects. This year, the competition included 3024 participants from 79 countries, while winners were selected by a jury headed by architect-academic Jan Olav Jensen.

2. Fairy Tales: Architectural Storytelling Competition

Usually runs: September – December.

Organized by New York-based online platform Blank Space, Fairy Tales invites architects, designers, writers, artists, engineers, illustrators, students and other creatives to submit their own unique architectural fairy tales. A successful entry crafts a text narrative through five images in the most spectacular way possible.

3. eVolo: Skyscraper Competition

Save this picture!
2017 Winner: Mashambas Skyscraper / Pawel Lipiński, Mateusz Frankowski. Image © eVolo
Usually runs: July – February.

Established in 2006 by architecture and design journal eVolo, the annual Skyscraper Competition is one of the world’s most prestigious awards for high-rise architecture. It asks the following questions: What is a skyscraper in the twenty-first century? What are the historical, contextual, social, urban, and environmental responsibilities of these mega-structures? eVolo recognizes outstanding ideas that redefine skyscraper design through the implementation of novel technologies, materials, programs, aesthetics, or spatial organizations. Architects, students, engineers, and designers from anywhere in the world are eligible to participate.

4. Architecture at Zero: Zero-Net-Energy Design Competition

Save this picture!

2016 Winner: Energized Canopy / Romain Dechavanne. Image Courtesy of Architecture at Zero
Usually runs: May – January.

This competition, now in its seventh year, was conceived as a response to the zero net energy targets set out by the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) in its 2008 report. The challenge is to create energy-efficient design while the final review includes an evaluation of the design’s technical components. Architecture at Zero is open to students, architects, landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, and designers anywhere in the world, and student registration is free. This year, up to $25,000 in total prize money will be awarded to student and professional winners.

Usually runs: January – April.

Organized by the interdisciplinary not-for-profit organization Shelter Global, the intent of this competition is to foster new conceptual ideas about how to better handle the growing density of unplanned cities. Contestants are asked to consider how design can empower communities and allow for a self-sufficient future. The competition limits constraints on participants in order to give them the freedom to think in the most creative ways possible: there are no restrictions in regards to site, program, or size. Architects, students, engineers, designers, thinkers, NGOs and organizations are all invited to participate with no requirement for professional qualifications.

6. What Design Can Do: Responding to Current World Problems

2016 Winner: Agrishelter / Narges Mofarahian. Image Courtesy of What Design Can Do

2016 Winner: Agrishelter / Narges Mofarahian. Image Courtesy of What Design Can Do
Usually runs: May – September.

Working in partnership with IKEA and Autodesk, Amsterdam-based What Design Can Do (WDCD) was initiated in 2011 as a platform to showcase design as a catalyst of change—a way of addressing the societal questions of our time—and not just something that makes things pretty. While the competition’s 2016 brief dealt with the refugee crisis, WDCD has chosen to focus its attention on climate change for the next two years as it invites students, creative professionals, and imaginative start-ups from all countries and disciplines to participate. Interestingly, the competition also allows participants to create customized briefs, depending on their design approach, subject of interest, and project location. The winners, selected and evaluated by an international jury, share an award package worth €900,000 which includes a project production budget.

7. The Berkeley Prize: Essay Writing Competition

Usually runs: Initial round September – November. Semifinalists round December – February.

Established in 1998, The Berkeley Prize is endorsed by the Department of Architecture, University of California, Berkeley. Open only to full-time undergraduate architecture students, the competition encourages participants to expand their academic education by going into their communities and investigating how the built environment best serves and reflects the everyday lives of those for whom we design. Each year, a topic critical to the discussion of the social art of architecture is selected and a related question is posed; students are invited to submit a 500-word essay proposal in response. From this pool of essays, around twenty-five selected contestants move to the semi-finals where they are asked to submit a 2500-word essay expanding upon their proposals.

3 Top Architectural Ideas Competitions to Enter in 2022

These global challenges call for inspiring images that tell complex stories about our built environment.

Why enter an architectural ideas competition? While cash prizes often form the initial draw, the long-lasting value of design competitions are compelling — they can form a creative vehicle for you to develop your own architectural vision, expand your portfolio, and connect with likeminded creatives, among many positives.
Architizer’s One X Challenge Series — Comprised of the One Rendering Challenge, One Photo Challenge and One Drawing Challenge respectively — are among the most popular ideas competitions in architecture. Each competition tasks entrants with a simple yet challenging brief: Tell a powerful story about architecture with a single image. That’s right — just one!
For each competition, participants are invited to enter their best architectural drawings, renderings and photos. Entrants are encouraged to submit images that go beyond a ‘pretty picture’, communicating the atmosphere and story behind the structure, place or space they choose to depict. At their best, the Winners of the One X Challenges reveal complex truths about our world, and the role architecture plays in shaping society itself.
Each competition has a stellar lineup of jurors who are global leaders in their creative fields, and prize money for the Top Winners across all competitions totals $15,000. Further to this, an amazing 100 Finalists from each competition get published in some of Architizer’s most viewed features of the year, forming a vibrant exhibition of architecture and creative ideas.

The One Rendering Challenge is a perfect entry into the world of architectural visualization competitions, allowing professionals to showcase their finest work and giving those just starting out a chance to shine, too. Using any modeling or rendering software, entrants are tasked with producing a single image that tells a story about a complex piece of architecture and those who inhabit it. The rendering can depict a real or imagined structure, meaning the only limitation placed on entrants is their own imagination. The resulting images — a few of which can be seen above, from past seasons — form a stunning gallery of architectural visualization, each unique in narrative and bursting with atmosphere.
Past winners include Jeremias Dabbah, Sofia Di Tomaso and Camila Crudo, students at the University of Buenos Aires, and Francisco Tirado, architect and visual artist at Cobe Architects, each of whom secured $2,500 in prize money. The jury for the competition has featured some of the biggest names in architectural visualization, including the A+Award-winning Keely Colcleugh of Kilograph, Mengyi Fan of SHoP Architects, Matthew Bannister of DBOX and Jeff Mottle of CGArchitect.

How to Win Architectural Ideas Competitions: 3 Key Considerations

For the One X Challenges, entrants are challenged to create or capturing one image that powerfully communicates a piece of architecture — real or imagined — and hints at the experience of those that would inhabit it. This architecture can be located anywhere in the world, whether in a dense urban setting, a small town or isolated in nature. It can be from any perspective, and depict architecture at any scale, from a panoramic cityscape or a cluster of buildings to an individual building or even a single detail. As long as it portrays part or all of a building or group of buildings, it is eligible. Your image should be accompanied by a short description of the architecture and the unique story behind it, no more than 150 words.
As you consider the possibilities, the next question is likely to be — how do I win? The answers lies in the criteria by which the Finalist drawings will be judged by our expert panel of architects and influencers.
Communication
Unlike a piece of pure art, the most important quality of an architectural image is its ability to communicate the unique qualities of the building or buildings it possesses. A good architectural drawing, rendering or photograph can tell the story of a building and those that might inhabit it in a single snapshot. The image can communicate many different things and focus on one or more of the following aspects: Spatial layout, technical details, materials, connections between architectural elements, relationship to context, the transition between spaces, and more.
Aesthetics
A beautiful architectural image is undeniably appealing, but in order to win, the aesthetics of your image should be about more than just beauty. They should convey the essence of the architecture that is depicted, and the atmosphere of a space. A strong image of a ‘designed’ building will include specific architectural characteristics that speak to the creative philosophy of its architect. In contrast, aesthetics may also concern the portrayal of untidy, chaotic or even “ugly” architecture to paint a powerful picture of certain environments.
Impact
When communication and aesthetics are perfectly combined, they can produce an impactful image that is widely celebrated and eagerly shared among Architizer’s huge, design-oriented community. Virality is not an exact science, but Instagram experts understand the bold qualities that make an image memorable and shareable. The ingredients of an impactful architectural image include but are not limited to: Bold geometry, unusual angles, rich color combinations, sharp contrasts, rhythmic patterns and strong legibility.

5 Reasons to Enter Architectural Ideas Competitions

Architizer competition juror and Archihacks Founder Bennett Oh has won more than 20 architecture competitions so far in his young career to date, netting over $24,000 in prize money in the process. Here are Oh’s top five reasons to enter design competitions:
1. They offer you the freedom to design your dreams.
Competitions often stand on a hypothetical premise. Organizers are hoping to gather the widest breadth of ideas for the given site. In other words, they are not looking for the most ordinary proposal. As long as you are fulfilling the baseline functional requirements, the rest is up to you! Design your heart out, and who knows, perhaps your entry will be the chosen one.
2. They provide the opportunity to experiment and improve.
Oftentimes at work or school, there is little next to no leeway to experiment with unconventional ideas and representation methods. The risk of investing time and effort, only to get unwanted results is sometimes too high for formal projects. Competitions might be the perfect test rat for your radical concepts and visualization techniques. Many architectural innovations occurred during competitions due to the special nature of this format.
3. They offer opportunities for international recognition and validation.
Competitions tend to draw attention from the public media. Depending on the prestige of the competition, the winning architect can become an instant world star. For most competitions, the bottom line covers exposure to potential future clients, and establishing your presence in the industry. As Phineas T. Barnum once said, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity.” and competitions can certainly place you on either side of history.
4. They provide extra motivation to produce excellent work.
Knowing that there are others competing for the same prize is a great motivation to work hard, and produce excellent work. As a result, you may achieve quality of work you may not have achieved had you worked on your own.
5. They’re fun!
Last but not least, enter architecture competitions for the joy of sports. There is something motivating about competition for the first place with talents around the world. When the competition is over, you can marvel at other entrants’ creativity.

Now you’re familiar with the competitions, don’t miss out — pre-register for one or all of the One X Challenges, and we’ll reach out with all the information you need to participate when each competition begins!
