BEIJING, November 22 (Itar-Tass) -- Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao begins his official visit to Russia on Monday. During his stay in Russia he will take part in a regular, the fifteenth, meeting of the two heads of government.
“Wen Jiabao’s talks with the Russian leaders will focus on issues of trade and economic relations, on cooperation in the energy sector, and in the areas of finance, agriculture, and regional cooperation,” said the Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister, Cheng Guoping. “The sides will outline top-priority areas of cooperation at a new stage, and will consider new approaches to the practical cooperation between the two states.”
“Being big neighboring countries and important strategic partners, China and Russia are also countries with emerging markets,” the Chinese diplomat said. “Maintaining friendly relations, developing mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthening long-term and sustainable strategic partnership is in the interests of the two nations.”
The Chinese diplomat paid special attention to the importance of close contacts between Russian and Chinese leaders. In his words, they exchange views on key international and regional problems on a permanent basis.

St. Petersburg, Russia - China and Russia have decided to renounce the US dollar and resort to using their own currencies for bilateral trade, Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin announced late on Tuesday.
Chinese experts said the move reflected closer relations between Beijing and Moscow and is not aimed at challenging the dollar, but to protect their domestic economies.
"About trade settlement, we have decided to use our own currencies," Putin said at a joint news conference with Wen in St. Petersburg.
The two countries were accustomed to using other currencies, especially the dollar, for bilateral trade. Since the financial crisis, however, high-ranking officials on both sides began to explore other possibilities.
The yuan has now started trading against the Russian rouble in the Chinese interbank market, while the renminbi will soon be allowed to trade against the rouble in Russia, Putin said.
"That has forged an important step in bilateral trade and it is a result of the consolidated financial systems of world countries," he said.
Putin made his remarks after a meeting with Wen. They also officiated at a signing ceremony for 12 documents, including energy cooperation.

"I'm glad to see that the bilateral trade structure has been improving through the two countries' cooperation in terms of machinery and high-tech products, which account for one-third of total trade volume," Wen said at the Fifth Sino-Russian Business Summit Forum in Moscow adding that a special fund has been established to support Chinese enterprises that import machinery from Russia.
On Tuesday, Russia and China sealed a number of deals on oil, gas, coal and nuclear cooperation, as trade volumes between the two countries increase.
