My vote: Lampsy all the way!Who is Chelsea's player of the season?
1) Nicolas Anelka: Much of Chelsea's early season success was down to the prolific and golden touch that Nicolas Anelka could brag. His initial integration, despite being largely familiar with the Premier League, could be mirrored by that of a foreign import, as it took him six months to settle, before exploding at the beginning of this campaign. He kept Drogba out for much of the season, seemed a suitable stand-in for when the Ivorian was injured, and now seems to have built up a fluent understanding with the spearheading striker as he pulls into the deeper positions. His barren patch, where he was stuck on 15 league goals for what seemed like an age, will play against him when thinking of the club's player of the season.
2) Frank Lampard: There is a common motif growing at Stamford Bridge whereby each of the incoming managers pays tribute to a player they deem to be one of the best, if not the best, in the world - Frank Lampard. Whether it's Jose Mourinho telling the naked England international precisely this while the midfielder is trying to shower, or Guus Hiddink's more orthodox style of nodding toward the player's on-pitch attributes in public, defining him as a complete box-to-box player, the admiration is unstinting. Lampard has long been a 20+ goals a season man but, this term, has had the audacity to up his game even further, following a summer when he committed to a weighty new financial deal. His left-footed, chipped, third-minute goal against Hull City in October is worthy of Goal of the Season nominations, and prompted a proud Luiz Scolari to boast that it was the best goal he had seen.
3) Jose Bosingwa: The touchline-hugging, attack-minded full-back looked to be a smart piece of business if solely judging the Portuguese international on his first few months, as he benefitted greatly from Scolari's presence on his lines. The Brazilian World Cup winner enjoyed working his full backs: - guiding, positioning, and ordering endless instruction to both Bosingwa and Ashley Cole. A minor blip ensued, though, but Bosingwa has slowly returned to form. He has provided a number of assists, and will no doubt vie for the right-back role in many sports media sites' Team of the Season selections, along with ex-Blue Glen Johnson.
4) John Obi Mikel: Filling Michael Essien's shoes can be one daunting task, especially following a summer when one of the greatest shielding midfielders of recent times - Claude Makelele - left for pastures PSG. John Obi Mikel adopted neither the Frenchman's nor the Ghanian international's style, instead playing his part in a new 'Mikelele' role, providing the deep areas of midfield with a direct link to a forward line that, at times, consisted of five men, as a bastardised 4-1-4-1 was oft-experimented with. Mikel is a physical presence and, if partnered with the now-injury-free Essien, can prove to be a useful option if the manager wishes to help stifle opposition attacks.
5) Didier Drogba: Relentless injuries have marred the Ivorian international's season as he has been in-and-out of the side for the lion's share of the campaign. What Drogba has though in abundance is his ability to turn it on in the big games. He is a regular tormentor of fellow London club Arsenal; no defender at the Gunners, it seems, is capable of containing the nuisance powerhouse. He seemed to be still lamenting the loss of Jose Mourinho in the early part of the season, but under interim coach Guus Hiddink, Drogba looks revitalised. It was his goalscoring in the round of 16 versus Juventus, and the quarter-finals against Liverpool, that nudged the Stamford Bridge side into the final four. He also downed Arsenal's FA Cup final hopes as he helped knock the north Londoners out at the semi-fnal stage.
My vote: Frank Lampard. His defensive work is overlooked. He can break up play, roam forward, play a defence-splitting pass, or unleash a thunderous shot himself. His consistency is something any blossoming player can and should learn from. A fine nomination for any Player of the Season award, not just at club level, and it was unfathomable how he was left off of the PFA nominations.

@Jekyll
