Interstate Licence Holders
You simply need to hand your licence into any VicRoads Customer Service Centre and prove your identity. There is no cost and you will keep the same expiry date shown on your interstate licence. There is no need to make a booking. If your interstate licence has expired by less than five years you will need to pay the licence fee. However, if it has expired by five or more years you will need to undergo a licence test.
New Zealand Licence Holders
You must follow the same procedures as Interstate licence holders, however, you must pay the licence fee.
Overseas Licence Holders
As the following countries have similar licence standards to Australia, current overseas holders of licences from the recognised countries listed below are not required to complete any tests.
Austria, Denmark, Germany, Italy
Netherlands, Spain, UK, Belgium
Finland, Greece, Japan, Norway, Croatia
Sweden, USA, Canada, France, Singapore
Ireland, Luxemburg, Portugal, Switzerland
If you are from one of the recognised countries listed above, simply go into a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with:
your overseas licence*
proof of identity, and
pay the licence fee
*If your overseas licence is not in English, you will need to supply an official translation of the licence. An official translation can be obtained from your country of origin's Licensing authority, your consulate in Australia, the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) or you can use an International Driving Permit.
A Victorian licence will then be issued to you.
