What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a pleasant state of altered awareness (or trance state). This is a state which you already have great experience of when day dreaming, when your mind wanders off on long journeys, when totally engrossed in music or TV or during meditation.

You are:
• Totally in control
• Aware of all your senses
• Alert to all that is happening

What is hypnotherapy?

The British Medical Association (BMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) approved the use of clinical hypnosis in the 1950's. Hypnotherapy is an effective way to achieve Goals and modify undesirable patterns of behaviour, using the power of the unconscious to reinforce the conscious Mind's resolve to overcome negative habits and reactions.

Can I be hypnotised?

YES . As a general rule anybody who wants to be, can be hypnotised. People who claim hey can't be hypnotised usually do not fully understand enough about what hypnosis really is. Many have only experienced hypnosis on TV, or a stage show or by someone without the necessary experience and qualifications demanded by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Generally speaking, every normal person with an IQ of at least 70+, and no severe mental disorders can be hypnotised.
If you WANT to change you CAN . Hypnosis can help you achieve the things you want to do; you cannot be made to say or do anything you find socially, morally, or ethically unacceptable.

Is there any danger?

NO . You will do only what you want to do and achieve what you want to achieve. Stage Hypnotists work with people who are happy to make fools of themselves and is a form of entertainment quite different from Therapeutic Hypnosis... Life Vision Coaches work with people who want to help themselves... for example, to reduce stress, overcome phobias, change the way they act in certain situations, break through limiting belief, or increase motivation. Hypnosis is completely safe. You are aware and in control at every moment and can stop the session at any time. Hypnosis is not sleep, and you cannot get stuck in a state of hypnosis or trance. You cannot be made to do something against your will! Hypnosis is a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable experience.

Do I go to sleep?

NO . Although many hypnotherapists use the word sleep, it is not sleep in the common sense of the word. You can talk, move, laugh, or cough... You are in control... and know exactly what is happening around you - in the same way you can get absorbed in a television programme, or a book or when daydreaming. (Also See Common misconceptions about Hypnosis )

Why don't I change anyway?

EVERYBODY has a conscious and unconscious mind and your unconscious is more powerful than your conscious. Your unconscious mind must be updated or realigned with your conscious to help you achieve what you want to achieve... Hypnotherapy does just that in a peaceful and relaxing way without co-ersion.

What if I have strong / no willpower?

Your will-power is in your conscious mind, whereas your imagination is in your unconscious mind. So, if you imagine that you want that cake, or need that cigarette, or cannot cope with your problems, then no matter how strong your will-power, it will lose.

Remember - your unconscious mind is stronger than your conscious mind. It can help you achieve all you want to achieve.

.

Who uses hypnotherapy and why?

People who use hypnotherapy are many and varied: top business executives, sports people, members of the police and fire service, doctors, students, interviewees, expectant mothers, journalists, people suffering the strain of caring for others, brides and grooms. They do it for any number of reasons: increase performance, to change the way they feel, reduce stress, overcome fears and phobias, gain confidence, stop smoking, or lose weight - to name but a few.
