Dva albuma Wictor Wootena u 2012. Posluzio se malom igrom reci, prvi album je Sword and Stone a drugi Words and Tones. Sword and Stone je u celosti prisutan na YT dok Words and Tones nema ni jedne jedine stvari osim promo klipa i zao mi jezbog toga jer mislim da je bas taj album nemerljivo bolji. Ali pojavice se on.

Junkyard Groove su odlican funk/rok bend sa prizvukom alta/south roka i neke indijanske muzike. Sve u svemu jako zanimljiva kombinacija.

"Admit it, you miss the early-'90s era MTV. Back when pop-music wasn't a bad word. Before the onslought of faceless post-grunge and nu-metal and bubblegum pop. It was a good time to grow up. If you miss those simple days of Hootie and the Blowfish and Spin Doctors and Deep Blue Something and Gin Blossoms then this is the album for you.

Junkyard Groove are not treading any new musical ground. In fact, their few experiments in anything that isn't straight ahead pop-rock are the low points of the album, but mercifully few and far between. What the band does know is how to write pop songs, that's for damn sure. And while some might call it formulaic and staid, it feels like a breath of fresh air in a world where people forget what made the Beatles so much fun to begin with.

The album starts off with the appropriately titled "Open" which attempts to sound like folk and isn't necessarily bad so much as boring, but after that it's mostly pedal to the metal for the band, which in their case means acoustic guitar riffs, bluesy electric leads, a funky but not quite funk rhythm section and vocalist Ameeth Thomas doing his best impression of a happy Eddie Vedder, singing about love lost, love found and other fairly standard rock fare.

If it sounds cliched, you're right. It is. But in a good way. This isn't the sort of music that will make you think hard about the world around you or change your point of view about war or free trade. But it's perfect for rocking out in the car or at a party or as the soundtrack to your prom or those long phone calls with your first crush.

The lyrics aren't the most thought-provoking in the world, and this coming from someone who thinks "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" is one of the most meaningful songs ever written, but Ameeth delivers them with conviction and with no shortage of catchy melodies. He is ably supported by Sid on guitar, who doesn't stray far from the blues, but has an equally fine ear for melody in his playing. Craig and Maynard provide the funky rhythms on bass and drums and while they might occasionally seem out of place they rarely press the issue and stay in the pocket.

The energy of the band also shines through on the album and the music is generally optimistic. Even the ballads of love-lost seem rather upbeat. The band's sense of humour also shows on songs such as "Folk You" and "Rock n' Roll" and they certainly seem to be having fun playing their music.

It's very unlikely that this album will be considered a classic. Maybe if it was released about 15 years before it was it would have been, but now it makes the music feel a little dated. However, for a little disposable fun or guilty pleasure (if you're into that sort of thing) this album could be the soundtrack to your next long drive.

Oh, and in case you were wondering about the [bootleg] status of the album, it's because the band is currently in some sort of dispute with the distributor of their album, which means that the limited run of "bootlegs" made by the band themselves are the only CDs available. All of their music is available for download though."

To translate Supergroove into words is no easy task. A volatile concoction of soul, rap, funk combined with a highly extroverted stage performance, Supergroove are a visual and aural explosion that leave all who have seen them ecstatic.

Supergroove revolutionised local modern rock and were one of the first New Zealand bands to fuse Hip-Hop and Rock with a horn section, creating a sound unheard before. Bursting on to the Auckland live scene at the dawn of the 90s after gestating in their high school music room as the 'Low Down Dirty Blues Band', the then-teenagers had energy to burn and musical talent oozing from every drum beat, shiny sax key and funky guitar.

Responsible for a string of what have gone on to become classic kiwi anthems, Supergroove generated a staggering 6 Top 10 hits throughout the 90s. Amongst them the gold singles 'Scorpio Girls' and 'Sitting Inside My Head', platinum-selling 'Can't Get Enough' and 'You Gotta Know', live standouts 'Next Time', 'You Freak Me' and 'Here Comes The Supergroove' and many more.

Their debut album 'Traction', released in 1994, shipped Platinum in New Zealand and debuted at #1 on the National Album Charts, holding on to the top spot for over a month. 'Traction' remained in the Top 15 for over 3 months and has now sold well over 5 times platinum life to date. The album received rave reviews and went on to pick up several prestigious awards, among them the titles of Top Group, Best Video ('Cant Get Enough'), Top Producer and Top engineer at the 31st New Zealand Music Awards in 1995.

The band toured the world in 1995 to support the International release of 'Traction', playing shows in South Africa, England, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia (where 'Traction' went Gold), Singapore, India, Australia, New York and Los Angeles.

The follow up 'Tractor EP' racked up platinum sales, and their second album 'Backspacer', released in 1996, debuted at #2, and spawned the top 10 single 'If I Had My Way' plus follow up '5th Wheel'. 'Backspacer' quickly achieved gold status and won Best Production at the 1996 NZ Music Awards. The group disbanded in 1997, but not before their phenomenal recording career had seen them sell close to 200,000 albums worldwide.

Fast forward to 2003, when 'Postage' was released. Named by the band, following a long-time tradition of christening each tour with a word ending in "age" ('Wreckage', 'Damage' and 'Funkage' to name a few), 'Postage' saw Supergroove selecting their favourite songs as if preparing a setlist for their ultimate live set. Collated from a mix of album tracks, single cuts and b-sides, the tracklisting also features a new addition - 'For Whatever Remix' - a 2003 reworking by the band of previous single 'For Whatever Reason'.

In October 2007 Supergroove reformed to support Crowded House at three concerts, in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as two of their own concerts at the Kings Arms in Auckland.

This reunion included Che Fu, Joe Lonie, Tim Stewart, Ben Sciascia, Ian Jones, Nick Atkinson and Karl Steven. Currently, the band has not stated if this reunion will extend beyond these gigs.
