Montenegrins want to join EU not NATO
The vast majority of Montenegro's citizens back country's membership in the European Union but not in NATO, according to latest opinion poll.
Podgorica's daily Repulika quotes the opinion poll, conducted by Center for Democracy & Human Rights, showing an overwhelming support to Montenegro's EU entry.
The poll shows that 76.5 percent of respondents back Montenegro's membership in EU.
Montenegro's membership in NATO, on the other hand, did not muster nationwide support, as only 36.9 percent of respondents voted in favor.
The United States actively supports Montenegro to join NATO's Partnership for Peace (PfP) Programme, i.e. NATO pre-accession programme.
Russia, however, reiterated on several occasions that it sees no reason for Montenegro to join NATO.
